I have received a secured credit card this week. I feel different more adult. I needed to build up my credit score. Do I like the feeling. Personally no. Maybe in a year. I still feel like a child playing grown-up. 8O. I have not activated it because I am waiting for some clarification on the company part. At least I have it made to the paperless world. Your thoughts?

Make sure you play the balance by the due date.

Do I take my own advice? No, I don't. I'm in severe credit card debt.

But....make sure you pay the balance by the date.

Being adult is over rated and far too hard to me, I'll take my stuffed animals and video games thanks.

Having said that, to be more on topic, credit cards are easy to manage so long as you set a limit yourself. Don't go near your actual limit, limit yourself to say $20 a month or whatever is in your budget or only use in emergencies. Do not allow interest to build up.

I'm more of a debit card person, myself. Not too good with numbers, really...

My 1st credit-card was a secured one. I had to get a secured one because I was on SSI & never had a job before so I had no credit history & I couldn't get my parents to cosign. I used it instead of cash or a debit-card(I never used a debit-card even thou I have one from my bank) & I payed the balance off every month. I didn't really feel more adult or more like a kid. It made it easier for me to buy things online cuz I didn't have a debit-card at the time so that was nice & I built up good credit history & was able to get an unsecured one after being employed for abit. I have 3 credit-cards now but one I never use & I pay the bills every month.

Congratulations! I agree, pay the balance every month, don't carry a balance.

Is it Discover? I get Amazon points every time I use my Discover card, so I use it for everything, instead of my debit card. Then I pay the balance every month, and I never pay interest or fees. So the Amazon points are like free money. (except I guess I could trade in Amazon points for money, instead of spend them on fun things for my cat, but oh well.)

Yes. Take a pair of shears and cut it into pieces. Those damn pieces of plastic are more trouble than they're worth.

I have been looking into credit cards since 2007. But I really got serious since 2009 when American Express sent me offers a month after my father death.Even though I was intrigued I didn't go because I wasn't ready emotionally and monetary. My mother made me joint-owner of here Discover card 4 months ago which is nice but not accepted everywhere :( . I just look for cards with no annul fees (very important) APR concern me. If I have good credit I can get the APR down. Benefits at the present don't concern me. Having enough money and paper checks do.
