The Positive Uplifting Quote Thread
I've been very depressed lately and saw a quote today that I thought made so much sense, that I wanted to create an uplifting thread as I'm sure there are other wonderful quotes too! (was that a run-on sentence?)
Here's my first positive quote:
"You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do" - Eleanor Roosevelt

Darn, I flunked.
I have another good one:
"Joy is not in things; it is in us" - Richard Wagner
I'm happy already! ![]()
(That's probably why I shop so much.)

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
I do not remember the source, but- I love this quote.
My dad has it as a magnet on our fridge.

That's a great quote! I think I have some religious ones too for the Jesus people here. I have a positive thinking app that sends me several positive thoughts a day.
Here's some I use to keep me thinking positive about school:
"It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop."
- Confucius
"Opportunities don't happen. You create them." -- Chris Grosser
"The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting."
- Walt Disney

Eleventh Doctor: The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
You don’t need a reason to help people. [Zidane; Final Fantasy IX]
Yuffie: C'mon, Cloud! Say something!
Cloud: ...something.
[Final Fantasy VII]
You must do your utmost while you are still alive. That way, the life that you lead will be reflected into the future and your spirit will live on. [Grovyle; Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky]
Because it's not the end that matters! It's knowing that you have something to live for right now, at this moment! Something you've worked for, something that's worth protecting! As long as you have that, that's enough! [Terra; Final Fantasy VI]
A memory is something that is consciously recalled, right? That's why sometimes, it can be mistaken or wrong. It's different from a memory locked deep within your heart. Words aren’t the only way to tell people what you’re thinking. [Tifa; Final Fantasy VII]
Crying when you need to cry is another way of showing strength. [Fai; Tsubasa Vol. 2]
The princess is strong. And because she's strong, she's fragile. If somebody doesn't teach her that fact, she'll break. [Tsubasa Vol. 18]
There is something you can do. You can smile. Sakura-chan, your smile is like food to a starving man for Syaoran-kun. [Fai; Tsubasa Vol. 6]
But there's one thing you must remember. Whether you want it or not, once you have created bonds between you and other people, those bonds will never disappear. [Yuko; Tsubasa Vol. 19]
It is not 'strength' to try to take everything upon oneself. [ Kurogane; Tsubasa Vol. 25]
You don’t belong only to yourself, you know. I doubt there is a single person in this world that belongs only to himself. When someone makes a connection...there is always something shared. And so people will never be completely free. It’s that which brings out the fun and sadness and love. [Yuko; xxxHolic Volume 8]

Anyway -
Love is something you do, not simply something you feel - or not. The fact that love or metta is something you do means that you can cultivate it at any time, however you find yourself, whatever mood you're in.
- Subhadramati, from the book "Not About Being Good."
I like this idea, as I find it frustrating trying to extend love when I can't feel or understand it.

Our HAPPY thought for today:
"Every body in the world is seeking happiness - and there is one sure way to find it. That is by controlling your thoughts. Happiness doesn't depend on outward conditions. It depends on inner conditions." - Unknown

This is what should be done
By one skilled in goodness
And who seeks the path of peace
Let them be able and upright
Straightforward and gentle in speech
Humble and not conceited
Contented and easily satisfied
Unburdened with duties and frugal on their ways
Peaceful and calm, wise and skilful
Not proud and demanding in nature
Let them not do a single thing
That the wise would later reprove
Wishing for in peace and safety
May all beings be happy
Whatever living beings there may be
Whether they be weak or strong, omitting none
The great and the mighty, medium, or short and small
The seen or the unseen
Those living near or far away
Born or seeking birth
May all beings be happy in themselves
Let none deceive another
Nor despise any being in any state
Let none through anger or ill-will
Wish harm upon another
Even as a mother protects with her life
Her only child
So with a boundless heart
Sould one cherish all beings
Radiating kindness throughout the universe
Reaching upwards to the skies
And downwards to the depths
Outwards and unbounded
Freed from hatred or ill-will
Whether standing or walking
Sitting or lying
So long as one is awake
Sustain this mindfulness
This is the sublime abiding
Free from fixed views
This pure hearted one
Having clarity of vision
Free from attachment to sense desires
Is not born again into the world.

We are still little more than a dream character in other peoples lives, even if they do those things, your actual significance to them is pretty much zero, and that can be a freeing thing.
Love is a pretty loaded word, depends how you want to look at it. In some ways it can be a significant as another bodily function, which can be quite a significant thing, if you really need to pee, though not really something one can be in awe of, but it does help the continuation of life. Considering and caring for someones needs and well being, (sometimes if that person is yourself) like you say, thats something one can do. In a way it doesn't matter what word you ascribe to it. If we are all one consciousness, but experiencing itself as separate entities, love takes on different meanings.
Anyway, my quote, from Stanley Kubrick.
'The very meaninglessness of life forces man to create his own meaning. Children, of course, begin life with an untarnished sense of wonder, a capacity to experience total joy at something as simple as the greenness of a leaf; but as they grow older, the awareness of death and decay begins to impinge on their consciousness and subtly erode their joie de vivre, their idealism – and their assumption of immortality. As a child matures, he sees death and pain everywhere about him, and begins to lose faith in the ultimate goodness of man. But, if he’s reasonably strong – and lucky – he can emerge from this twilight of the soul into a rebirth of life’s elan. Both because of and in spite of his awareness of the meaninglessness of life, he can forge a fresh sense of purpose and affirmation. He may not recapture the same pure sense of wonder he was born with, but he can shape something far more enduring and sustaining. The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent; but if we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death – however mutable man may be able to make them – our existence as a species can have genuine meaning and fulfilment. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light'. ―Stanley Kubrick
