Hey. Just out of interest. where are people from on this board...
I am from a small island in between England (UK) and France called Jersey.
Jersey is one island of a few in a group of islands called the channel islands.
Jersey, in my opinion is a very strange place. Very beautiful and well kept but at the same time
very materialistic and conformist place. This is because it is one of the world's few offshore centres.
Offshore centres are where rich, famous, powerful and arguably corrupt people hide their money from
the tax man in their own country. This means that in such places, the finance industry is the most
important industry and the main focus for employment.
This is a complete nightmare for people on the spectrum, especially those who are aspergers or high functioning, as the finance industry does not tolerate any deviation from conformity and is by its very nature, pressurised and extremely stressful with lots of deadlines and targets...
The island that i live, even though very small (7 miles by 9) has a population of over 100,000 and not enough accommodation. The accommodation is also extremely expensive and on par with some of the expensive areas of a major city in the UK such as London.
Jersey, is an island that has loads of wealthy peoples money stashed in and is the home to quiet a few millionaires and multimillionaires but who keep their wealth to their self and do not help the poor of the island.
This is partly because people from outside of Jersey see Jersey as a place where everyone is well off and also because there are some funding opportunities in Jersey, however these, like everything else is controlled by the elite wealthy upper class high society cliques. Unless you are a world class sycophant, which i believe is unlikely for most autistic people, you are never going to be helped. So, the money gets given to the money and the poor get poorer etc. same old same old.
Still. The island is in a lot of ways very nice, relatively safe (lower crime rate than most places in UK) and is full of natural beauty.

Please note however, if you come here. Jersey, due to its smallness also has some of the bad traits associated with small towns.
Gossip is rife and witch hunting and bullying does happen sometimes.
I, unfortunately have and am the victim of this kind of thing mostly because of a certain local DJs who are trying to set up a gangster syndicate to control the scene led by several dubious natured individuals including one convicted woman batterer DJ, who used and influenced an impressionable young teen age daughter of a UK celebrity to feed slander into the UK entertainment and journalist industries, bribing the 15 year old with class A and filling her head full of absolute bs.
I believe he tried to swap reputations with me, which is probably the maddest thing i have ever heard of. But there you go. He started martial arts, and then got people he knew to slander me and call me his nickname (for the past 20 years) in attempt to get people to believe i was him, the slimey woman beater, and he was me. How messed up is that. but there ya go. if you came here you would likely be oblivious to that anyway or perhaps believe every word that these petty crims come out with. but nevermind.
But there we go. I try not let people's slander and delusions spoil my life.
