I have an IQ of 140.

Makes me both sad and agry when I read the defination of aspergers on Wikipedia being refered as:

"Asperger syndrome (AS), also known as Asperger's, is a developmental disorder "

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome

Seriously?

How can that be even true? There are NT's with less than 100 IQ all around us......

I took a developmental disorder just means you mature at a slightly slowly rate, emotional maturity and intelligence has nothing to do with one another. Also, I personally think the IQ test does not accurately measure intelligence anyway. Numbers and squares fit in a box, my brain doesn't fit in a box.

IQ doesn't matter. You'll find that, later in life. (Says the thirteen year old) I'd like to point out High IQ makes you more likely to fail in life then point out. Like I said to someone on reddit. All Hail King of Autists! That is sarcasm by the way. No one likes the people who speak out like their above everyone else. You either don't know what a developmental disability is, or just need to Gulp down your pride. If you're perfectly capable of doing everything you're capable to do that. There are many people here with iqs Way higher than that. You might be the same person he said he had a iq in the 140s. Though, To be honest IQ is all about reasoning and problem solving. Not anything that will help you in life. You could be misdiagnosed. There is a overlap between people with High IQs and Asperger's or autism. Developmental disability doesn't mean low IQ. Global Developmental delay does mean lower iq. There is that possibility. That you're not autistic.. It is a DISABILITY, meaning it does disable you. Asperger's syndrome is still disabling. I know many autistic people in real life. I have a brother and step-brother that are autistic. One with Asperger's syndrome. You might be experiencing denial. From, what I know people with asperger's syndrome might be less disabled compared to people with more severe ASDs. I also seens a handful of people at schools. Mainly public school, Both severe, moderate, and mild. I don't understand my own emotions very well, though so I can't really understand. I'm about as Emotionally intelligent as a Pencil. I'm a bit of a covert narcissist.

P.S. Sorry for the lecture. I get a little worked up when, people act like they're better than others. [/color]

Developmental disorder does not only mean intellectual development. In ASD, it is more to do with psychological development, such as socials skills, recognising non-verbal cues, self-awareness etc.

I've a high IQ. I can solve complex puzzles as they're presented on IQ tests.

Yet I can't for the life of me figure out telephone calls.

Go figure, there's something going on there. The main thing is not to be offended by the labels, as long as they don't adversely affect the way you get on in society. The phrase 'developmental disorder' bothers you - disregard it. You know your own strengths and weaknesses, you know your own mind.

Developmental disorder literally means disordered/abnormal development. It is not an indication of IQ/overall intelligence.

The problem may lie with thinking intelligence is linear. Where you may be very good in reasoning and problem solving, you may be deficient in emotional intelligence.

It's amazing how many people on forums, not just this one, claim to have IQs over 140. It's almost like it's an' in crowd' thing.
All I know is my pdocs have described me as highly/very intelligent, but I have definite areas of cognitive difficulty.
I make no claims to a 140+IQ.

But it is a developmental disorder. I don't get what you're angry about.
I have an IQ of 128. Doesn't mean I will be any less successful than you. Richard P. Feynman had an IQ around mine and became one of the greatest physicists known to man.

I heard that us Aspies are stereotyped to have high IQs but I'm pretty sure mine is at least abit below average cuz I struggled in most of my classes in school due to learning disabilities.

You guys missed my whole point!

I don't care who has high or low iq. Mohammad Ali had an IQ of 78 and we all know him as the world's greatest boxer. I adore his moves.

I was making a whole different point about "developmental disorder" being referred to for people with Aspergers. When you say "disorder" it's invertly means that the NT's are in "order".

It's like the colonial rule saying that the white are superior to blacks. That's the whole point I was trying to make!

I have an IQ over 140.

But the reason you find this stat of people making these claims so often online, is because this is an Online Boards, people who go on computers tend to have higher iq's than those that don't.

An IQ score is just like an autism diagnosis; both are based on quantifiable tests and observation (a little like joining the military, becoming a police office or getting elected to public office). If one is faulty, then others are probably as faulty ... yet we don't doubt the work of others with average IQs, do we? To me, an IQ score is akin to gas mileage; it is a (perhaps slightly flawed) functional fact, but not very notable. Nothing more.
