It's everywhere. People hate it. Do they even help the companies that much? Maybe it's always worked in the past, but times are changing. I read in many articles that they have minimal to no effect on people now.

I don't think TV and radio ads work anymore. I remember 22 years when there was one TV ad that worked on me. "Schweppes Grape Ginger ale - the new British pop." I was deluded back than. I was convinced that I was an Anglophile.

The last ad that had an effect on me was one for Spice Girls Impulse body spray and that was in 1998 when I was obsessed with Scary.

I'm not into buying into hype.

Unfortunately, ads do work. And now, with the extreme proliferation of content available, it behooves manufacturers to advertise their product so that it sticks out from the crowd.

I'm learning this the hard way because, in my case, writing novels and publishing them aren't enough. I have to get the word out about them, so yes, I will need to advertise. Either that or climb up the Columbia Tower like Spiderman with a giant ad dangling from my skivvies.

Advertisements make me aware of products that are out but they do NOT influence my decision to buy them. I don't even know what commercials are advertising half the time. The commercials that used to influence me were commercials that talked about the product & explained things. Nowadays that's only done in infomercials which I don't watch.

The reason there are still commercials on TV because they sponsor the shows, which 99% of are now also horrible.
They have no true purpose whatsoever.

In Canada most TV ads are around 30 seconds long, but in the US they can be at least 2 minutes long. American ads are the worst. Most evil, hateful, filthy pieces of dirt to ever go on air. And they're making classic TV shows shorter by editing out so much of them it's very jarring, or speeding them up so it sounds like everyone inhaled helium, just so they can fit more commercials in. EEEEEEEEEEVIL!!

Most advertising absolutely turns me off (and turns my stomach as well).

The most innocuous ones tell you that, if you have a problem, we have the answer.
A good ninety percent take place in two rooms of the house, the bedroom and the bathroom.
They advertise drugs with horrible side effects.
And, if something goes wrong, you can sue their pants off!

I'll take a long shower to start the day with my Aveno body wash. I'll put in my Speed Stick with 74 hour protection. I'll also pull out a role of Charmin. I'd better put my Tena underpants on. It's chilly. I think I'll relax under my covers for 15 minutes after I put on my medicated Gold Bond foot cream. Should I buy that Serovital on the way home from work, today? I really want to look the way Mick Avory did in the August of 1964. I'd better not. It has too many side-effects. I'll brush my teeth with the Crest Pro-Health two step system, take my Paxil and take the bus to work.
