Is there a forum heaven?

Jk.

Really, if WP goes the way that most forums are going these days, what will happen to it?
Will it be archived somewhere where future sociologists and psychologists can study it as a snapshot of autistic society?
Will it just kind of float around out there in cyberspace like a piece of space junk?
Do I need to cringe at the thought of future generations reading my crap?

Who knows?

I doubt WP will die for a very long time because autism is a massive thing, however I bet there will be a more popular site that will take more of the members away, perhaps a new forum with xenforo software. WP sadly is pretty outdated in that regard, but the community isn't too bad which is a shame.

It's freaking useful if something odd happens to your client's site and ypu need to pinpoint when it occurred. Especially for inherited sites I didn't build in the first place.

I had to steal graphics for a slider from an older version of a site and reinstate them because the client somehow broke the site.

I used to frequent the "Aspie Hangout" on Delphi Forums before I knew about Wrongplanet. It was a lively, if smaller, community than this.

But now its deader than a ghost town.

Olive Oil Mom got pissed off at the moderators on WP, and started here own rival site called "Right Planet" patterned after Wrongplanet. And it attracted a few folks (all apparently one time, or still current WP members). But its died out pretty much. Even OOM herself never visits it anymore.

Aspie Central was doing fine the last time I checked though. So WP and AC are both big fish in a shrinking pond I suppose (hogging the autism subset of the shrinking forum market).

Facebook is supposed to steal folks away from Forums. But WP is what keeps me from using my Facebook account.

Aspie Central is a far better quality interface than Wrong Planet. I don't know any one over there, so I've not migrated. I might give it another try, I'd forgotten about it.

I found Aspie Central quite dull.

neat!

i've poked around there just now, and have completely forgotten just how.... ancient the old WP looked. it was a relic.

still kind of miss it, though. custom rank was cool.

I think WP would benefit greatly from a mobile app, even some sort of Tapatalk thing. That might help prevent it from dying out.

@mr_bigmouth_502
I agree, I hope that WP does become a mobile app in the future, so that way it's easier to use on a phone, and I can avoid my phone crashing back on the front page. (Believe me, I have a crappy phone...)

The way phones handle WP's formatting is abysmal, and the interface has elements that are just way too small to click on with a touchscreen.

^ Yes. I don't know how many times I've subscribed to topics I never wanted to subscribe to.
And pressed the report button while trying to quote someone.
And selected an inappropriate emoji. :|

i noticed it's gotten a little better over time...i can zoom in on my phone now, whereas that wasn't possible when this site (version) was still new. dunno what changed, and when. :? that at least makes it easier to select page numbers on the "egosearch" page.

oh...and i can't tell you how many times i've clicked "edit" instead of "quote" sometimes not realizing until it was too late and already submitted. (always change it back)

and not just on mobile.
