Is it true that you don't use electric kettles? They are a stable in every British home, how do you boil your water?

Also why do you find beans on toast weird? Do you really eat mushed up corn?

I have an electric kettle and eat beans on toast with gusto. Admittedly, however, I picked up both practices when I was a student in London. I occasionally go to a British stores and get the plain Heinz beans so it tastes just right.

We have an electric kettle at my house, but otherwise a tea pot on the stove top usually works...

I would certainly prefer beans on a tortilla, or fried bread:

especially good if you put butter on it right after frying it.

and I've never seen or been served mushed up corn, mashed potatoes is a thing but I hate the texture of that so I assume I wouldn't like mushed corn either.

I use the coffee maker, or microwave water and let tea sit for 5 minutes. For boiling obviously a pot on the stove works fine.

We have beans and corn bread together for Texas style meals. Mmm, quite delicious. Never seen beans on toast though I'm sure it tastes fine. I just think its strange how you UK folks have beans and toast for breakfast??

Mushed up corn I use is creamed corn, which gets mixed into beef dishes.

Why couldn't they use the freezer in the hotel room?
Or don't they have fridges in hotel rooms there?

I've always assumed it's because the hotels are too blasted cheap to just put a mini-fridge in each room. There are exceptions, but it's very rare.

I hate ice machines. There's usually like, TWO on a floor (and many, many rooms on a single floor), and that can mean a long walk just to go get the blasted stuff that will go and melt anyway before the next day, even in a cooler. This is of course provided you can find the horrid things; hotels with particularly weird layouts (like golf resorts) can be a freaking maze.

I know nothing about the other things mentioned here.

Lots have them but some people want to keep things cool on the way to & from the hotel.

I mean, why don't they use the ice that's already in the hotel freezer?
Or are the ice machines like bulk ice machines?

This subject has intrigued me ever since I first saw it mentioned on WP.
I'd never even heard of an ice machine before.

I dont know what a hotel freezer is.

The only ice in the vast majority of hotels comes from the huge dispenser machines found on each floor.

It somewhat depends on the area though. Large cities are more likely to have a mini-fridge in each room in their hotels. Less populated areas mostly do not.

I do quite alot of travelling, and I always bring my stupid cooler with, because I know that one way or another, I'm probably going to be making trips to the ice machine due to the lack of a fridge.

Wow, I've never stayed in a hotel without a fridge (in the room), and I've stayed in LOTS of hotels.
They usually have ice already made, a jug of water, milk for tea and coffee and sometimes cold drinks which you can purchase at an exorbitant price.

Well, I guess that makes more sense, if there's no fridges in the rooms.

Yea I've had the same experience. Also tip for if you come to england I'd your in a hotel that doesn't have offer a free cup of tea/coffee it's not a gooden (Although I haven't stayed in super super expensive hotels so that may be different). Luckily even travel inns (our versions of like motels) provide tea and biscuits.

I've heard the term grits? Also we have stove top ones for like camping and they take so long!

Baked beans on a tortilla sounds really strange
