If sound cannot travel through a vacuum, why are vacuum cleaners so loud?

I am actually kind of curious about this as well now that you mention it, I mean I imagine in some way it has to do with the vacuum not existing outside the vaccum cleaner but not sure.

Because they have a motor.
Which drives a fan.
Which sucks.

because the vacuum is outside the vacuum.


the air in a vacuum's "vacuum" isn't much thinner than air a mile or two above sea level.
