Hi! I'm a "froggy". I'm going to the US for 3 weeks next Summer. I'll be traveling around Anaheim, near Los Angeles.
Where should I go? What should I see? Is there anything partiularly interesting for you there?
I like sciences and videogames, so if anything is about that... I'm very curious!

Well, I don't really know about anything else, cuz I've only been to San Diego; but, make sure you get an "In and Out" burger, in Los Angeles. They're WORLD FAMOUS----so, to say you've had one is pretty cool!!

The California Science Center is directly next to USC *in L.A. They have a Gemini capsule and Shuttle Endeavour on static display. Closer to Anaheim is Little Saigon which is well worth a visit for a coffee, a bowl of pho or a baguette. The community is a bit Americanized in regards to transport so don't expect to see many scooters or mobylettes there. By chance are you coming for a trip to Disney? I live so close to there I can walk outside and see the fireworks. Lots of places to eat and shop, the In-N-Out is one of my particular favorites - especially the one next to LAX

Anaheim? Well, there's Disneyland, of course; but only if you're able and willing to spend $100 just to get into the park. Most of the area to the south of Disneyland is hotels. On the west side, there's Knott's Berry Farm, which is more affordable for the working class (and more fun, imho). On the east side, there's the Honda Center (hockey, circuses, concerts) and Angel Stadium (baseball).

Anaheim is about 25 miles from the ocean, and about 35 miles from the mountains and desert.

Los Angeles is just one, huge freeway network connecting studios, LAX, parking lots, and panhandlers

Not particular sure about Anaheim, but if you venture any where else I'd suggest not wearing copious amounts of red or blue....I grew up around Stockton, CA and...yeah, wearing red or blue can get you shot. Damn Norteños...

Thank you guys for all your advices! I'll be able to visit the whole state. What would you recommend in SF?
(I have a vegan lifestyle so no meat burgers for me!)

San Francisco ...

32nd street pier is a well-known tourist "trap", but I've enjoyed it.

Chinatown is a must, especially for veggie types who want more than just a salad.

To the south is Monterey, with an oceanographic institute running a seaquarium.

To the north is Napa, where vintners produce some of the finest wines in the world (Je suis désolé, mais ce est vrai!).

To the east is Berkeley, a hotbed of free-thinking philosophers and intellectuals.

It is not a good idea to wear those particular colors in some areas of this state as well...I do not wear my bright red pants in those areas, I figure the plaid ones are ok because its off red and different shades not a solid color.

i recommend monterey's aquarium. the town itself is cute too, but when i went there around 5 years ago, the motel i stayed at whose name i forgot had a poll that didn't work, and hardly any channels on the tv (when i still watched tv) still, could be worse.

red and blue are the colors of the largest rival of our largest high school (and one of the oldest in the state), in santa barbara. if you go to that HS, it's a good combination to wear if you want to get jumped by 17 year olds in student govt.

do yeah. one can do better than to wear red and blue, anywhere apparently....

*vomits everywhere*

you can forget about walking anywhere. i wish you luck on the buses, i do. there was so much area to spread out to and it being earthquake prone...besides that, i really do not know why LA is so sprawly. it being built mainly in the era of automobiles likely played a role, in contrast to older cities back east.

I've never been to California or any other parts of the US, but I know a few things about the state. It is famous for its sunny weather, oranges, Hollywood, Disneyland, beaches, and earthquakes. They are always talking about the "big one", as in a major earthquake that may strike California some day and cause it to be ripped apart from the rest of the country and be completely destroyed. Also the thought being shot just for the colors you're wearing is scary. Even though everyone up here complains to much about the cold it drives me crazy I am glad to be living in a part of the world where I don't have to worry about earthquakes or what colors I wear can get me killed by gangs.

Small world ;) I got out of that area in 2006. I grew up in Manteca actually but it always seemed I spent more time either in Stockton or San Francisco *shrugs*. My brother still lives there though.....kinda near the Walmart on Hammer Ln. in that nice subdivision or whatever. If you're living in Mt. View you must be makin' bank ;)

My cousin is rollin' with the Nortenos though

if you ask me, it's overly sunny weather.

i wasn't too too keen on the "oranges" meme. florida is famous for that too, i think. but yes, we're famous for all those others. universal studios, beaches warm enough all year to celebrate christmas on, beach cruisers (don't plan on climbing any hills...)

and some do talk sometimes like that about the big one  but no, i think it will be around 7 - 7.5 or 8 when san andreas slips. it was the front page story a few days ago, the risk for the big one happening within 30 years increased.

not endemic to california. those places can be avoided.

As long as someone mentioned Monterey, Morro Bay is worth checking out. When I rode north the first time it was also the first time of going from clear blue sky into a wall of fog. Seriously California is a bigger landmass than most countries in the world and is on par with being a modern Wonder Of The World. Another prospect is to try to visit all 21 of the original Spanish Missions that are spaced along the way from near Sonoma all the way to San Diego.

Oh yes, native Californian myself as well - very near Manteca, and the hospital is still standing.

The red/blue issue is only 1 very small part of the costume - certain motorcycle clubs wear neither red nor blue but rather green, but again maybe those 1%-ers patch these days indicate the number of members who actually own and ride a motorcycle.
