I prefer the original....

It feels more claustrophobic than the remake and i love the fact the main characters peter, roger, steven and fran become isolated in the shopping centre. They are surrounded by all the material possesions they could want but it does not bring them happiness, which makes me wonder why people think having material possesions is the be all and end all. The main reason i think the original is best is you get a sense of 'cabin fever' from being trapped in the shopping centre. the best scene in the film is after a group of bikers break into the shopping centre after it has been locked down and for a while they fight off the zombies that have followed them in. One of the bikers decides to check hs blood pressure and the zombies attack him, leaving his severed arm on the blood pressure machine.

I think the remake moves too far away from the original, the remake was just cashing in on the 'dawn of the dead' title. It could have been a great film in it's own right if it had different title. The original has more kitsch value, the characters work well together, where as the remake there is not much holding the characters together, no one seems to care for one another, that is not the case with the original. Both films have a pregnant women and in the original she is still quite tough and won't take any s**t, in the remake she is a 'blink and you'll miss her' character, i think she was kept in the remake so the scene with the baby could be used.

What do you think?

The origional dawn of the dead movie is the definitive version in my opinion. There are too many characters in the remake to keep the movie as tense as the origional.

One of the characters dying in the remake wasnt a big deal , in the origional it was a threat to the others. There just wasnt the fear - they had the mall , they had food and company so there just wasnt anything to fear other than boredom.

Also I think this whole thing of making zombie movies where the zombies are running after people instead of the old style "grrrr brainz" stumbling dead is a bit too 00's. Arent the old slow reanimated dead scary enough? Are running slightly more intelligent than a banana zombies part of our "post 9/11" movie experience? discuss!

I like the slow zombies, when they are fast they are too much like us and not the 'dead'

Who was your least favorite character in original, mine was Steven, he was bit of a light weight compared to peter and roger.

 I was kind of satisfied when he became one of the undead LOL

I liked 28 weeks later but i never got why everyone calls it a zombie film, the people aren't dead(like zombies) they are infected with the RAGE virus....

I like both the original Dawn and the remake, but I like the original a bit better, purely because it's the original, and because it features "classic" zombies. The stumbling, relentless advance of the Romero zombies is somehow a lot more terrifying and visceral than the running onslaught of the remake's zombies.

That, and the social commentary of the original is a lot more apparent.

Meh. Only in very rare circumstances are remakes better than the originals. This wasn't one of them, I think.
