I came-across this website and thought it was really interesting, and thought others might like to check-it-out:

http://us.geotargit.com/called.php?qcity=Boston

I searched for Baltimore, and here's what I got:

Quote:
There are 16 places in the world named Baltimore!

Number of places named Baltimore per country:

There are 7 places named Baltimore in America.

There are 3 places named Baltimore in Colombia.

There is one place named Baltimore in South Africa.

There is one place named Baltimore in Peru.

There is one place named Baltimore in Ireland.

There is one place named Baltimore in Honduras.

There is one place named Baltimore in Guatemala.

There is one place named Baltimore in United Kingdom.

How 'bout YOU----are you all alone, out there?

I live in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. The only other city I know that has the same name is Sydney, Australia. I've heard at least one story where someone meaning to fly to Sydney, Australia who ended up here instead. They eventually went to their intended destination but did have positive things to say about our Sydney.

Reminds me of a strip in a Beano Book where the Bash Street Kids sailed off to see the Olympics in Perth, Australia... only to land in Perth, Scotland!

Never would have guessed that there was any other place where they would spell "Sidney" with a "y" other than the big well known city in Australia.

Your Baltimore is named after "Lord Baltimore" who founded the Maryland colony. But his family linneage might have been named after some place in the British Isles.

But why are there so many "Baltimores" in Latin America?

They are all probably pronounced "bal- tee-morrr-AY".

I used to live in Bethesda Maryland.

Its named after the Bethesda in ancient Judea in the Bible.

The Biblical Judea was a "place of healing'. And they choose that name for my old home town because they built the big Naval hospital in what is now Bethesda (atleast that was what I always assumed).

Its amazing how many phone solicitors have never heard of either of the two Bethesda (Biblical, or the modern one outside of the Nation's capital). And its also amazing how many dont know how to read "th", and try to say it "BAH..TEEZ...dah". Dumb clucks.

I know live in Rockville. I am sure there must be places in Germany named "Steinberg". But have never heard of another "Rockville".

Have lived in Montgomery County Maryland for most of my life, but only a few years ago I learned that the neighboring state of Virginia ALSO has a "Montgomery County". Their Montgomery county is way the hell far from the Maryland- Virginia state line (which is one and the same as the Potomac River), so the two namesake counties dont get confused. Their Montgomery County is in that little wedge shaped tail of Virginia that is west of West Virginia, deep in the Mountains.

There is only one town in the world with my town's name.
Not surprising.
Australia has some pretty unique place names.

I was sure only one city existed in the world called Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. They said there were two. In Uzbek, the city is called Toshkent.

There are 27 places in the world named Rockville!

There are 24 places named Rockville in America.

There is one place named Rockville in South Africa.

There is one place named Rockville in New Zealand.

There is one place named Rockville in Belize.

That's interesting.....
