Picture this - I poured myself a glass of fruit juice and water and put it down on the table next to a box of dark chocolate. I unwrapped a piece of the chocolate, and intended my next actions thus - 1. Take bite of chocolate in hand. 2. Pick up glass off table. 3. Carry both glass and piece of chocolate into the livingroom to waste time on the computer.
But it didn't go that way. Instead, I took bite of chocolate, put it down on table, picked up glass and walked away.
Hence the title.
Anyone else got any notable brainfarts?

I get the typical, "Now what did I come into the room for?" type of brain fart. Those, and the one you described, are completely normal types of forgetting. You have a lot on your mind, and you can't remember things. Retracing your path does work to correct the problem.

I hate the word "brainfart". The thought of my brain literally expelling gas inside my skull is really creepy and gross.

But yes, I can so very absent-minded I'm almost like the professors in those old jokes. I'll walk into another room and forget why I was going there, I have trouble remembering if I've taken my daytime meds or not (never the night-time meds) and just the other day I couldn't remember how to do something I've done maybe a million times and do almost by instinct, which was how to replay messages on my phone. I eventually did remember, but that worried me quite a bit. I'm 43 now and anything could be an early sign of dementia. :(

Especially when I was first on risperidone, I did some pretty inexplicable things, e.g., to make myself a cup of coffee I poured whole coffee beans into the filter cone and filled my cup with hot water...

I have brainfarts all the time, especially when tired.

Hah! That's a great one, I can completely see how that could happen. Reminds me of experimenting with mouthwash - rinsed toothpaste out with water, spat it out, put mouthwash in mouth, swished it about as per instructions, then went to dry my face and spat the mouthwash on the hand towel.
Reminds me of travel blogger Mike Sowden's comic list of things to do before you die - one of them was "absentmindedly put something in the fridge that doesn't belong in the fridge." :D

When I was reading this, I thought you were going to say you bit the glass instead of the chocolate. :)

* I have forgotten to put the cheese on my grilled cheese sandwich, so two slices of bread got grilled together with nothing between them. This has happened two or three times. Another time, I forgot the top slice of bread, so the cheese stuck to the top of the grill.

* I mistook a mirror on a wall for a sliding cupboard door and accidentally pulled it off the wall trying to open it, then dropped it and broke it. This was in a motel room, and we had to get a different room.

* I was walking down a ramp at a train station with my mum one day, and I don't know what happened, but when I looked at her, I thought she was a concrete pillar, so I kept trying to walk around her so I wouldn't walk into it and get hurt.

Nothing like rushing to fish a lighter out of a gross toilet before it sinks further down when all you wanted to do was relax and smoke a ciggy :P

I've done the second one you mentioned with the mirror a couple times and got yelled at for it. "Wtf! You idiot!"

Once when I was younger I was getting ready to take a bath, and I had one of my Chronicles of Narnia books to read while in the tub. But then I tossed the book into the water before I got in! The book was still readable after it dried out, but it expanded to twice its normal size and the pages were all wrinkly. :(

This afternoon I was trying on pants, decided they fit ok, took them off, put my boots back on and almost walked out of the store changing room - without putting my jeans back on first. Lucky I caught that one.

One time I pepper sprayed myself directly in the eyes. Fun times.
