Did you ever used to think the moon was moving when you were riding in a car? I remember when I was really little and looked out the window during car rides, I thought the moon was moving in the sky. I looked like it was. Of course, the moon is not actually moving (besides it revolving around the Earth), it can always be seen anywhere.

I thought it was moving because of the car moving.

Yes I did too. My brother even used to say that the moon is following us.

I think I noticed that the mountains were moving behind the trees, and the moon was moving behind the mountains, and worked out perspective that way.

No, I never thought the moon (or the sun) moved or followed the car.

I used to have recurring nightmares about the moon following me when I was young. I know rationally that the moon doesn't move, but part of my brain always wonders..."but what if it does?"...

The moon does move, but it doesn't follow people. It orbits the Earth. When it orbits the Earth, it is moving. It looks like it's moving in the sky when you're moving. That's an optical illusion.
