When I was from four to twelve years old, I would seek science texts and just about anything else to read to learn things. And now I have a high speed Internet connection and I keep trolling between a lot of much more low-brow sites. Low-brow is good, I will say that. It can provide a lot of tension relief. The thing is, if I had devoted just one to two hours of this to actually learning languages, mathematics, and other scientific stuff, I would know more, be smarter, and have some books published. All this is literally true. I do have some serious problems in my personal history that made it hard for me to really organize at all and learn things, but I've still wasted thousands of hours of opportunities. I'm getting older without getting better and feeling it.

it is the same with me, but i know exactly where the problem is. now i am supposed to work continuously on my project. i am not motivated, though. but i also don't learn anything else, because i know that i should dedicate the time to the thing i am supposed to do. although, i don't. i would gladly do it, but some things just lead to nothing and then it gets quite frustrating. or i live in portugal for 4 a half years and still don't speak their language very well, while i learned how to speak english in one month. motivation is the queen of learning, in my case.

Tomamil, I can guess that you are having a harder time learning a language that is closer to your own but has those little differences. Portuguese also has some funny looking letters in it.

well, the point is that as children we had nothing else to do than following our obsessions. now, we have things we are supposed to do. there, in my case, i waste my time. as i explained before.
about the language: i find portugese quite easy. it's just that i don't need it. although, i live in their country. but i live here so lonely life, that there aren't many possibilities to use it. with english, i had no other choice. motivation. no motivation = no knowledge...

I've had similar problems. When I was younger, I read all the time, and I learned all kinds of things at an incredible rate. Unfortunately, until fairly recently, I entered a period of depression and rarely did anything productive for a few years. I really wish I had that time back, but I've been playing a lot of music lately and reading a lot, and I must say I'm much happier for it. We aspies have some incredible gifts, and I think we were put on this earth to use them. Easier said than done, sometimes.

They actually teach us not to use our gifts, which is a little strange because they don't really actually care if we do or not, most of them. It's a game that they play, it's a mindset, it's a play that they game at. It's in that realm of, they know it's a principle that they should behave a certain way, but, they have all these little things that negate the application of that principle, like the principle that a parent should help a child to learn and become competent. Thinking about this kind of thing always drives me off into moaning about how my competence as a human was deliberately targeted and still is.
