Would I be considered a STEM student?

Ok, so I'm starting University next month and I've been wondering this. At College I was considered a part of STEM because I did web design for two years (which has elements of both art and technology, but is usually considered under the technology label).

Now that I am going to University, I will be doing a media course, where we will be focusing on creating digital media and video editing. I plan to do a year in this, and then go on to do a full degree in media production for 3 to 4 years that also includes things like app design and development.

I realise it's not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when people mention the technology (the T) in STEM, but I think it still counts because it's still using computers and specific computer programs in order to create something digitally.

Ideally, I plan to improve my photography skills and video editing, and perhaps branch into directing short films a bit. I'm also considering working on my animation skills and my 3D model creation skills. Plus, I want to work on creating special effects too.

So yeah.. it kind of branches into art and design territory, but it's also classed under technology because you're still building stuff digitally, hopefully apps when I work my way up to a full degree.

I really hope I get my GCSE grades, otherwise I might have to take a year out.

Product Design is a STEM subject. Yours is not on the list, however, it must require some knowledge of programming, so it needs to count as STEM subject.

But why did you ask about it? Do you need to know it for the subject you wish to study?
