Finally a day off!! (lots of pictures!!)

I was at my parents' house today, and my mom was not only grooming her many plants, but also taking pictures. These are a few she got...


One of the plants she groomed was her massive Philodendron plant, which has massive leaves. This was me bein' stupid with the cut leaves, holding them over my head and pretending to use them as shade [:D]


After a while things got boring for everyone so they started loafing. This is my brother, his girlfriend, and one of the many dogs, chilling out in the glider swing....



I got bored too and got out my male breeder rat, Rex, who I had with me from the move yesterday. He was not wanting to be still for pictures, so I had to help him out. This is me and him having an "understanding" about holding still for the camera...



And this is Rex close up. I finally had to just hold him up for the camera. [:P]



Finally my mom got exhausted and she fell asleep in the glider swing....



I was bored watching her sleep so I got in my car and went out to the now de-commissioned Palarm Creek Park north of Little Rock, and I took the camera with me because I wanted to take some nature shots.

The park is overrun with lizards called fence swifts (Sceloporus species). This is a male showing his characteristic blue underbelly (and clearly p!ssed that I was in his territory! )


Here is a female, which does not have the blue underside.
**edit** Whoa, looks like I stuck in the wrong pic here! This shot is another male. He's doing a territorial display, showing off his blue throat patches as a warning flag to intruders. Just as well. The pic of the female is plain and boring compared to this one.



Along the old hiking trail I saw many interesting plants growing. This is Virginia creeper vine...


And this is wild grapevine...


This is red trumpet creeper vine, growing on the edge of a bluff along the Arkansas River. I had to actually hang off the edge of the bluff a little to get this shot!


This is a shot of the Arkansas River below. Again I had to sort of squat on the edge of the cliff to get the right shot. Can you see how fast the water was moving? I've only seen it move that rapidly once before in my whole life.



These are wild blackberries growing along the path. Not yet ripe enough to eat.



This is a blue damselfly female (the males are the ones who display the bright blue coloration for which the common name is given)



And these are Mimosa blossoms. There were several large trees in bloom today.


Here are a couple of wider shots of the whole tree in bloom...




At the mouth of Palarm Creek, I was able to get all the way down to the water right where the Palarm opens up into the Arkansas. This is the Arkansas River looking north (upstream).


And this is the Arkansas looking downstream to the south. You can see the peak of Pinnacle Mountain in the background.



After climbing back up to the path, I was ready to go back home. So then I thought I would share the pictures from my day with all of you. [:)]

I like hamsters a lot, Rex is very cute, I'd like to kiss him between his eyes

I had not thought of rats as pets before, only as pests and subjects for scientific research. But Rex the Rat looks cute.
