Being one of the last of the old kind.
It was just recently in the news that two performers who worked back in the Big Band Era died, at the ages of 100 and 95 respctively, Bea Wain, a (female) singer., and Larry Elgart, a saxophonist and bandleader. It seems they would be at least among the last surviving well-known performers who worked during the Big Band Era. A few years back, a bandleader from the BBE named Orrin Tucker died, I wondered then if he was the last surviving leader of a band which was a successful one during the BBE (Elgart was a sideman during the BBE, he didn't start his successful band til' the Fifties.)?
The point
of this is not just " Who's The Last BBE Dude/ss Alive, Then? "
, but...sort of thinking about being the last/-ish of an old era, and older and newer things existing at the same time
...the fellow shelter-denizen argument going on on the sidewalk, near me, at 3:49 in the morning! I'm cold now, goodnite

My saxophone teacher (in the late 1970s/early 1980s) used to play in big bands in the 1930s. What a cool old geezer he was!
He'd say: this is how you play this tune... then play the notation straight down the middle...
Then he'd say: this is how you REALLY play... then he'd swing it.
Left a lasting impression on me... except I had to re-learn how to read music, heh! heh!
