The Walmart near me is starting to put out the Christmas stuff and it's only approaching October. Christmas is getting earlier. Nowadays it's not uncommon to see Santa Claus's located next to skeletons in stores.

Given it is only 90 days until Christmas, is that unexpected? For instance, if people get paid once a month at the first of the month, they have 3 paydays, October, November, December, from which to draw money to buy Christmas stuff.
And I say that that way because of the large number of people, even in to the middle class, who are now living paycheck to paycheck in this society.

Quote:
"Seventy-eight percent of full-time workers said they live paycheck to paycheck, up from 75 percent last year, according to a recent report from CareerBuilder."

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/24/most-americans-live-paycheck-to-paycheck.html
And I would expect that merchandise selling at a slower rate is happening because of that. Therefore stores have to offer Christmas merchandise for a longer period in order to make back the amount of money they invested in it.

My local supermarket started putting out their Christmas stuff in early September. BEFORE the Halloween stuff.

In fact they don't even HAVE any Halloween stuff out yet. Just Christmas.

Sorry, it sucks. It's obscenely early to be pushing Christmas crap.

September should be for Halloween merchandise.

Then right after Halloween is done, get the Christmas stuff on shelves.

It used to be done this way and people still had plenty of time to buy.

IT'S GREED that makes them do everything earlier now.

It's not only Walmart, many other retailers have been doing the same.

I wonder if some people just stock up early? The only time the goods interest me is when it's the discount candy right after Halloween or Christmas.

They are doing it in the UK too. One local garden centre started putting their Christmas decorations before they'd put up the Halloween stuff. Goodness, that is a serious clash for Aspies: Halloween is predominantly orange and Christmas is predominantly red - red and orange, not good.

Incidentally, if they start singing 'Away in a manger' before December, I will call the Police.

I'm intrigued by people who feel the need to buy new decorations every year. When I was growing up we had a box in the attic that never got updated apart from when my Dad would make little arts n crafts trinkets for the tree with me.

^ Yeah why not? They have back-to-school ads at the end of June. I haven't been back to school in over two decades and still seeing them bums me out.

But what we think doesn't matter. The stores do what they want and don't really care about what does or doesn't please the customers.

The back-to-school stuff in June is unacceptable too.

All it is is greed on the part of the stores. It's not rocket science that obviously the longer they have merchandise stuck in people's faces, the more they will sell because it does make people think "Oh yeah, need to get ready for that. . ."

But it's corporate greed. It never used to start this early. When I was a kid stores didn't jump ahead like this, at least not THIS FAR ahead. There was always "ahead of time" but I mean NOT THIS FAR ahead.

I have horrible memories of how depressing it was to go back to school, so yeah I really don't enjoy seeing back to school all over the place while it's still the "summer holidays".

I find Christmas very depressing and not an unmitigated joy. . .so it's depressing to me to have to already be seeing it in my face in September.

This did not used to be the case quite so early.

Stores will do what they want but it pisses me off.

Off topic slightly but the same theme ---- UK TV shows Christmas movies ALL through the year. Wtf?? They have no concept of or respect for the idea of "Seasons" whatsoever.

I know what you mean NewTime. I worked at WalMart for 3 Christmases & they did get ready pretty early. I wonder if people are going to get confused about when Christmas is like in the Garfield ep where they pretended it was Chrtmas in July so they could mentally pretend it was cooler. Their neighbors started putting out the Christmases decorations & soon the whole block was decorated & people thought it was Christmas time.

Kohl's was starting to put out Halloween/autumnal decorations when I was still working there in July. At least wait until the right season, please

I'm in complete agreement that the Christmas stuff starts way too early too.
