While the amount of CDs in stores has decreased over the years, the vinyl record selection in stores has been increasing. The local Barnes & Noble recently added another shelf of records.

I wonder if VCRs will make a comeback like the records are because people prefer the quality of a VCR tape to digital.

Well Vinyls are quite a bit different than VCR tapes....I mean a VCR tape is like a giant cassette tape with video instead of music. Also another thing with Vinyls is they are large enough they can contain more artwork, may have a largish booklet of lyrics and more artwork and a lot of them even have a poster folded up inside. So it may not necessarily be about people preferring the sound, though I have to say I do prefer the sound of Doom Metal on vinyl its like the perfect medium for it.

Intrestingly enough I heard the theory a while back that hipsters were responsible for this increase of vinyl popularity, but now I wonder if it was metalheads because there are vinyl copies of just about every new metal album coming out as well as digital versions and CD and this has been going on quite a while. There is an independent record shop that mostly has punk and metal music kinda close to where I live and they have more Vinyls than CDs.

Vinyl records actually have better sound quality. The quality of VHS tapes is inferior to that of DVDs and Blu-rays. The disadvantage that records have is they're not portable. Someone cannot so easily go jogging around listening to records.
