Thick cream soups this time of year. I eat a LOT of split pea soup - storebought (Campbell's) and homemade. Bean soup (Campbell's and homemade), potato soup (homemade), potato soup with kale or spinach (homemade, incredibly tasty, can use either chicken stock or milk/cream - try it!).
If I'm feeling fancy sometimes I make Russian borscht - beef stew with red cabbage and carrots and onions and sour cream. For Christmas I like to make a milk- based salmon chowder with salmon, potatoes, onions, hot red pepper and chives. And butter (Edit in: the red pepper flakes and bits of chive look like Christmas confetti. And it's really tasty - if you like chowdah.)
I take a lot of shortcuts - canned or frozen veg, canned salmon. Cook beef and veg in the microwave before combining. Saves a lot of time.
