Have you ever been caught out lying?

I remember when I was 16 I had a crush on a man I knew of but didn't know enough to talk to. My family didn't know him. But I liked him so much, that I wanted to fantasize, so I kept telling my best friend that this man comes to my house for dinner every Friday evening, and so I'd act all excited all day on Fridays. She believed me at first. But when I kept on about this really cool car he had, she started to be a bit suspicious when she and her mum sometimes drove past my house in her mum's car to the supermarket on Friday nights and didn't see a flash car outside my house. So one Friday night she decided to phone up my mum to ask if this guy was here, and my mum was like "no, we don't know him and whoever he is doesn't come to our house". I could not lie myself out of that one. My mum was angry at me for getting too obsessed, and my friend was angry at me for lying to her all this time, and I just felt a total idiot. Thankfully she got over it but it was still embarrassing. As a teenager my hormones were all over the place and all I could think of was men.

Have you got an embarrassing story to share about being found out from a convincing lie you had been telling?

Mine usually involves jokes. Nothing very serious. I never committed a serious lie yet.
Like hiding someone's shoes and found out I'm actually holding it for laughs. Or things like who ate the cake on the fridge and point someone.
Or minor stuffs like doing things that I'm supposed to do 'now' when I would later -- then get caught that I didn't do it yet.


If anything, I'm likely accused of lying than actually being caught out lying. Either my body language, tone, wording, are misinterpreted. Or, do blame my crappy short term memory for forgetting and get accused of playing dumb.

I was caught lying alot at times as a kid but some of that was because I was bullied alot & noone including my parents really understood or were even aware of all my physical & mental disabilities. I was misunderstood my whole childhood & this caused me to get in trouble alot. I couldn't really explain my issues to well since even I wasn't fully aware of them so I came up with lies to try & explain things which got me in even more trouble but sometimes worked. I also came up with lies to try & get out of embarrassing salutations which only sometimes worked. I cant really think of a really embracing lie that got me into trouble off the top of my head. I also been accused of lying when I was telling the truth thou.
