Last year I did my taxes with my parents help at EZ Tax Return and thought that since they stored all my information I could breeze through them this year on my own. I got through my W2s just fine but then it started asking a lot of questions I didn't know the answers to and I eventually just stopped and asked my parents if they could help me again. Last night I had nightmares that I did them wrong and the IRS showed up and arrested me for tax fraud lol. Anyone else find taxes weirdly intimidating?

I let the taxman of Shelton do my taxes for me. so far he only charges $40 for a complicated return with extensions. he only screwed up once. so far.

There's a member at my clubhouse who volunteers to do everyone's taxes.

I wonder how complicated are Canadian income tax filings?

Weirdly intimidating.. yes.

I have a business school education, yet I get such anxiety about filing taxes I put it off for over 3 years. The actual math to do them is not that difficult, just a bit annoying & frustrating. I don't worry too much at all about making mistakes - people who receive them at Canada revenue go over them and recalculate them to make sure they're accurate. I realized I'd made a mistake on one not claiming an automatic deduction, they corrected it and reduced my tax bill. My main issue was that I assumed I owed a bunch of money & didn't want to find out. I recently had a couple reasons to file them, so with reasons I had motivation and I filed them all a couple months ago & have gotten the notices of assessment back. Yeah, I do owe them some money but nowhere near what I thought so whatever lol and hear I waited a few years.. and it likely cost me more money in other benefits I didn't receive because my taxes weren't filed. Ah well, what's done is done, and at least they're done now. Funny thing is that the line item I was worried might cost me tax money isn't even something they ask for on any of the forms anywhere! Soooo my worries that I'd end up owing a bunch of money were completely self created by assumptions. Woops!
