If it were something that people chose, gay people wouldn't be in the closet out of shame. Why would someone be ashamed of something that was their own decision?

Even if it was a choice though why would it matter?

It is possible to make a decision and still be ashamed of the choice you made.

Of course it's not a choice! I definitely agree with that!

that is like saying that GOPers want the working class to have decent affordable health care [a demonstrable falsehood] and don't think of them as "lazy degenerates." YOU SAID IT!! !

If their employer was providing crappy or no health care, that is their problem and could seek employment elsewhere. ACA has not provided affordable healthcare for the majority, only part timers or those who do not work (most of these are either young or very lazy degenerates). Plenty of small business owners and the self employed have been unable to afford health care since ACA went into law. Employers and employees have seen nothing but premium increases and coverage decrease in order to keep premiums reasonable. But the left or at least the ones who benefit from this program flat out refuse to acknowledge. Sure, I can admit some who were not insured before, now are and that sounds great. But there is a LARGE number of individuals who have lost coverage, mainly the small business owner and the self employed (largely the middle class). Same for employees who work for mid size companies have noticed a increase in health care premiums.

As for trying to get back on topic. Yes, every time I have been discriminated against for my sexual orientation. Have been by a registered democrat... Why that maybe, IDK but that has been my experience over the years and one of many reasons I refuse to vote democrat again.

Regardless of whether it's a matter of choice or not (and I don't think it's a matter of choice), I think that shame is too small a term to describe why someone may be in the closet. There are some serious repercussions a person or their loved ones might face being out.
