reminds me of this which means "the place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as 'landeater’, played his flute to his loved one."

Wasn't it sung by the Chipmunks?

Being a Nintendo nut, I just have to post this. Though not as well known as the Chipmunks version of the song, it's still a classic commercial, one that I havent seen in years.

interesting.

A techno version for the 2000's.

Am used to the original Fifties version by David Seville the use a speed up tape (chipmunk voice) for the voice of the Witchdoctor.

Not ....exactly.

It was done by David Seville. Recorded under that name. Which had been a stage name for Ross Bogdasarian.

He hired
some back up singers to sing the part of the Witchdoctor. And then he speeded up the tape on those vocals by the witchdoctor to get the same whacky high pitched voiced "chipmunk" effect. And the same David Seville (Ross Bogdasarian) later used the same tape technique to create "the Chipmunks" cartoon show, and music. And he used his stage name as the name for the fictional human guy who was the caretaker and musical maestro of the chipmunks, and did that character's voice.

So no its not "by the Chipmunks". But it was a forerunner of the chipmunk concept being done by the same guy who created the chipmunks.

Am talking about the original novelty hit record.

Its likely that the Chipmunks DID cover it later. They covered every hit of that time from the Beatles to bossa nova music.

The Big Bopper responded by combining the Witchdoctor with the Purple People Eater into one musical saga.
