In the Tesco by me there is a certain security guard that is always staring at me in an aggressive intimidating manner. Does this happen to any of you? Do some people just take a bad liking to you?

Yep , I get stared at and followed all the time , one security guard wouldn't take his eyes of me so I returned the favour , he lost the staring competition. I must look like a shoplifter ?

All the time. I think they sense weakness, and, well, remember the law of the jungle—there’s nothing more contemptible in any living being than weakness.

He's an older guy by the look of it an ex bouncer. It really irritates me I know he isn't going to start with me but it gets annoying. It seems to be older men who tend to be the most hostile towards me.

Do you say hello to him when you enter the shop , I have found that some security guards relax their attitude if you say hello but not always

That's their job ( in their mind anyway ) , they are supposed to be a visual deterrent and the harder they look the less likely you are to shoplift ( steroid meat head theory 101  ). They are supposed to be civil so if you say hello , chances are they will say hello back and puts them off guard.

Not to the point it puts off customers. Its not like any other security guard I have ever seen.

Also possible.

He could just have a real s**t life and does it to most people and it's not personal , also if you make it obvious his staring bothers you it can give off the wrong signals.

The more you let people know their behavior bothers you, the more they’ll engage in it. The only exception, of course, is if they’re afraid of you, and clearly the reverse is true here.

I bet it has to do with your nervous/shy/reserved body language and lack of eye contact etc. These AS traits are mistaken by security people for being indicative that you're trying to coneal something or are up to no good. Basically, through no fault of your own you look like a classic sneaky shoplifter even though you're just trying to mind your own business and do your shopping. Try not to take it personally, they're just doing their jobs.. and if they didn't watch someone a bit closer who presented behaviours like these then they'd be a pretty s**t secuirty guard.
