I keep having dreams where Im chewing a wad of gum and the gum begins to stick to my toungue and I have to try and scrape it off. It neve comes fully off in the dream. Theres always a little left stuck to my toungue. What do you think this dream means?

Could it be a side effect of the medication Im on or does it have some kind of deeper meaning to it. Id really like to know!

A couple of things come to mind if you are on new medication.

- Getting a dry mouth or a metallic taste in your mouth is common with some meds, and it can be more of a problem at night sometimes, especially if your tongue gets dry from breathing through your mouth. So maybe your dream is picking up on a physical sensation like that?

- Some meds can give you particularly vivid or strange dreams. I have been on Mirtazapine a few times, which is well known for it, and the dreams were totally surreal and very vivid. I don't normally remember my dreams much, but with the Mirtazapine, I would wake up with very detailed memories of them, some of which I can remember even now.

What medication are you on Sarahsmith :?: It's cool if you don't want to say but Trogluddite mentioned some ways different meds may affect dreaming & some meds may affect dreaming more than others.

I vote for dry mouth, or something like that. Some actual sensation in your mouth that your mind accomidates via dreaming. Many dreams are like that. The common "flunking out of school" dream that people get (even as middle aged grown ups decades after leaving school) seems to be caused by either needing to pass water, or by not having enough blankets on your bed (your body tenses up, so your mind generates a story about anxiety to keep you asleep).

Dry mouth is miserable and uncomfortable. Hope you feel better soon.

I couldnt tell you what medication Im on because I always forget the name.
My mouth and my toungue do get very dry at night. 2 glasses of water usually takes care of it though.

There are several meanings to this dream you're getting and I'm wondering why you never looked it up.
Anyways..

Gum
To dream that you are chewing gum suggests that you are unable to express yourself effectively. You may feel vulnerable. Alternatively, it symbolizes a sticky situation that you are involved in.
To dream that you are unable to get rid of your gum suggests that you are experiencing some indecision, powerlessness or frustration. You may lack understanding in a situation or find that a current problem is overwhelming. The gum in your mouth is a metaphor for something that you are trying to process or digest. Perhaps you feel that you have bitten off more than you can chew.

Sounds similar to the common "teeth falling out" dream, which also means loss of control or difficulties communicating.

I don't think I've ever had that. When I have the "back in school again" dream, it's always the first day, and I'm having trouble finding my schedule or my classes.

When I have to urinate, I usually have dreams where I'm at school, or some other large, public building, trying to find a restroom...but usually I can't find one, or there's something wrong with it.

Sometimes I do find a toilet, and it feels so real, I always wake up, worried that I've just wet the bed O_O

I've had the gum dream many times in past years. Those were the years that I felt that there were barriers to communicating my problems and emotions to people, especially my parents.
