true but people also change their mind. I think it's fair to give users more power over their data production so that they may delete it if they feel the need.

Go right ahead and select the appropriate BBS software package, get Alex's permission to port the old data base over to the new software, make the move, debug the glitches, take the old system off-line while simultaneously bringing the new system on-line while maintaining duplicate IP addresses, recover from the inevitable crash, start all over and repeat as many times as necessary until you succeed.
