I've always preferred pools; I remember one time when I was trying to swim at a beach, but I kept having to return to the shore so I could get saltwater out of my eyes with a towel (my eyes are watering from just thinking about it). Plus, you don't have to worry about stepping on seashells and seaweed in pools.

The beach.
Pool chemicals affect my skin and the chlorine makes my eyes red.
Plus there's no surf. :(

I like the beach better. There is a lot more space on the beach so people can spread out more. I like the feeling of walking on wet sand. I can use my boogie board at the beach. I love getting knocked around by the waves.

I'll take beach over pool any day of the week. Not to say I particularly dislike swimming in a pool, but as a lover of nature, I just prefer the beach. Or any natural waters.

There's a lake not far from our house that we used to go to for a swim. I still go there at least once in a summer.

This and this.

I can't open my eyes or unplug my nose underwater. I like to wear a diving mask and go exploring, especially if it's a nice, clear lake. I like to chase fish around. I like to catch critters and find treasures. I'd love to try scuba diving. I've never been to the ocean. Lake Michigan is nice, but it's VERY cold, and you have to go out dangerously far from the shore before it gets deep enough. I don't like it over my head, and I don't like going through seaweed/muck (though I'm not afraid of the seaweed itself, only what might be lurking within).

Pools have a few pros: they are a lot warmer, and usually a lot cleaner, and an indoor pool is open every day of the year. I like to sit at the bottom of the deep end and see how long I can last before I have to kick myself back up to the surface.

My siblings and I used to have breathing underwater contests in the pool. I usually won. I like how clear pool water is.

The beach is much cheaper than a gym membership

minority opinion here, I much prefer the pool, it is cleaner, warmer, calmer, no foot hazards to worry about, showers available. shoulda been a poll IMHO.

I was thinking the same thing, but it's a little to late to make it a poll now (unless mods have that power?)

Idunno about "no foot hazards", I've found earrings and things in pools before.

I seldom stand up in the pool so I have not had occasion to step on anything on the pool bottom.

luckily, chlorine doesn't seem too mean to me. it did make my hair weird, though.

I prefer swimming on a beach. I'm allergic to chlorine.
