Wow, just one thing?

Well I thought free universal health care was the thing needed the most. How can you put a price on a human life and then just leave them to die if they can't afford it? I have never understood that.

I'd also like all the hatred to just stop. No more hate groups, hate crimes, terrorism or just plain hating anyone only because they are different. But since most human beings are naturally evil and have just barely begun to learn that being different is not some horrible contagious disease, that's never going to happen. :(

I picked free universal healthcare as a theoretical ideal, but the actual implementation of worldwide universal healthcare would be predicated on a single global governance which could be our species' worst nightmare. Fun to dream idealistically though.

If I were to choose something NOT on the list taking the question more personally as far as what change would have the most impact on me. I would have to say if the world was quieter my life would be radically different. The world in general is a very loud place. It just is.

If it could be up to me, I would go back in time and start the Renaissance 1000 years sooner.

Otherwise, I'd go for holodeck technology (not on the list).

I settled for "Free universal health care".

I know it's not on the list but I'd love to be able to stop the selling of cigarettes. Inducing lung diseases is just not needed.

Amen. I l had a friend in the US who was kicked out of a nursing home because her insurance wouldn't cover continued treatment. She couldn't walk and couldn't meet her own basic needs.

Then I moved to a country that offers basic medical care to all citizens. It can take weeks to months to arrange tests and treatment, but it works. Those that can pay a co-pay must do so, but prices are low (by American standards).

I wish the world would recognize the value and importance of life more than it does.

@Magna Agreed--less noise would be pleasant.

@Fnord Just imagine where we would be now! And VR is kinda of like baby steps toward a holodeck.

@Joe90 Yep--what gives with cigarette companies doing "stop smoking" campaigns anyway?

Agreed on the noxious cigarette smoke. They say former smokers can be the most ardent anti-smokers. Count me among that category.

I bought a packet of nicotine patches at Sainsbury's today. They were on the shelf near the paracetamols. I tried one and they work. You can feel it in you just like smoking. I don't know why more smokers don't use them. You don't get the lung and mouth damage and you get to have the nicotine effect when you're inside for a long time where you wouldn't be able to smoke.

Probably because that's the whole point, consciously or not: to do something conspicuous that harms your lungs, showing you're tough enough you don't need to care about that, and to bother non-smokers, asserting dominance over them and letting them know their dainty sensitivities and health concerns have no place near a tough guy like you.

If someone gets a pet, they should take care of it.

In this list I voted for Free Universal Health Care. I was born with a lot of disabilities & I had to pay aLOT for health care as an adult until I moved to Vermont & the docs all actually accept my Medicaid. I ran up a lot of debt partly related to medical expenses maybe 8/9 years ago that took me a few years to pay off.
