In September the Godwits fly direct from Alaska to the South Island of New Zealand. It is an extraordinary feat, one of the many marvels of the bird world.

They have arrived!

Thanks for that post and link! Are there bar tailed Godwits at Miranda or are they a different sort of Godwit do you know?

Miranda is in the Firth of Thames area in the North Island, and is one of the places in the North Island of NZ where the Godwits usually live when they are here. AFAIK these are the bar tails.

Great! Thanks for that. The first article seemed to imply that Christchurch was the only place they went to in New Zealand, but the second link gives a clearer picture. Much appreciated.
