The pea coat <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pea_coat>.

Classic (U.S. Navy has discontinued the design), super warm, durable, overall price range $35 to $2,000 ($250 range is typical for affordability and best quality).

You should look for the proper fit. Women's jackets are cut differently than men's or boys jackets. They typically taper in at the waist. Boy's jackets tend to be "one size fits all," which means they probably fit on you even if you are overweight. But a very poor fit if you are thin. Try some on to see what hugs your body best.

You can also pay more for better insulating materials.

In general, for warm jackets I always go with down. I like to collect a variety of jackets and coats specially designed for different environments. It is one of my numerous collections. The warmest one I have is called A Polar Expedition Parka which is rated for -80°F (-62°C).

You have a "coat collection"? You look so happy in your avatar image, it makes me wonder if that was one of the first in your collection. What are your other collections?

This jacket below is old school style, all wool and blocks the wind and cold superbly. I bought mine on 10.23.01 for $273. I know this because I wrote that info down inside the coat. The cost has gone up, but the craftsmanship has remained top quality.

I also have a coat like this. It's a great design because it's got mittens and a face shield built right into the coat that stow away when not in use.

I have a hard time resisting buying coats and jackets. Here is a photo of me with a coat and Johnny Unitas.

That is a great coat! But, did you mean to give it top billing over Johnny Unitas?!? That is two amazing things in the same day!

You were quite the model. :-)

I like it: Big buttons, angled pockets, do the cuffs seal with Velcro? Very Antarctica.

Good choice , I like the vintage British Rail overcoat

Ooooh, I LOVE that coat! So, Matrix and yet so retro classic.

The funny thing is ... my malabsorption issues make my pea coat wear a lot like your overcoat! Hehe.

My dark-grey Hanna Hats flat cap tops off the pea coat. I look soo Irish ship builder.

I prefer to see it more as a Lost Boys coat , Matrix to me seems too smart.

Image

It was my security blanket for years , I could sleep rough with that coat and wouldn't suffer.

I'm not a fan of flat caps , they don't suit me in my opinion, give me a backwards baseball cap any day
