Robberies at banks vs. other places and employee safety.

Why are employees at other places not nearly as safe as those in banks during robberies? Just how often do you hear about someone being killed in a bank during a robbery compared to other places?

Smaller establishments can't afford the security measures that banks have.

Anyway, have you been in a bank lately?
They're becoming boutique.
As in, staff are not behind a counter and protective screen anymore.

If you're referring to workplace violence, it's probably a matter of objectives. A bank robber's objective is to rob a bank.
A mass shooter's objective is to shoot as many people as possible. Anyway, it's unlikely that you will ever be involved in such a situation. Assaults by firearm kill about 13,000 people in the US each year, and this translates to a roughly 1-in-315 lifetime chance of death from gun violence. The risk of dying in a mass shooting is about 35 times lower than that, with a 1-in-11,125 lifetime chance of death.

One major difference between banks and places like convenience stores are the number of people around. In a bank there are usually a number of people around when they are open. Not only out in the open but down hallways and inside various offices.

In a convenience store, it is often one or two employees. A robber can sit outside and wait until it is empty of customers before going in.

Also, banks are typically only open a limited number of hours per day while convenience stores are typically open around the clock. Other small stores will typically be open to the public longer hours than the local bank.

The data at the link said that it was 1 in 315 lifetime chance of assault by a gun and the the link misinterpreted that. You are merely repeating what the link's absurd misinterpration.

I've personally known way more than 315 people who have died and none of them were killed by a gun. On the other hand, I've known a few who have been assaulted by someone with a firearm.
