Lyrics to a TLC song.

Umm, your shoes are a bit small for that.

Song "writers" just don't care about their lyrics making sense anymore.

What would the person use to tie the other one up, their shoelaces?

That gets my vote for the "dumb quotes/sayings" thread. Song lyrics today are nonsensical or just plain nasty. This one fits the goofy category.

I think it's a metaphor. There's an expression that's about wearing someone else's shoes which means to be in their place/position/situation. I Wish I Could Tie You Up In My Shoes could mean something like I Wish I Could Force You To Be In My Position/Place/Situation So You'd Understand/Relate To What I'm Dealing With/Going Through/Feeling

BINGO!

"I wish I could tie you up in my shoes...and make you feel so unpretty"

Exactly what Nick is suggesting.

The first line of the late Nineties TLC hit "Unpretty" means "I wish I could force you to see it from my pov".

No more nonsensical then "raining pennies from heaven", or "take another piece of my heart", or "I woke up feeling like I have freight train running through the middle of my head[Springsteen]" or any other random metaphorical line taken from any other random song from any previous generation.

I know what it means when people say "if you were in my shoes", or "I'd hate to be in your shoes right now", but tying someone up in your shoes sounds like "If you were in my shoes, I'd tie myself up", or...something
