Kapre: ImageKapre is a giant who likes to smoke huge rolls of cigars, and hide within and atop large trees, particularly the balete and old acacia or mango trees. A Filipino bigfoot, it scares away little children who play at night. If one is stuck in a place and keeps going around in circles, one is said to be played around with by a kapre. To escape its control, one must remove his/her shirt/clothing, and wear it inside-out.

I'm fond of the bunyip, because I like the name.

I also like the modern horror movie zombies (not the voodoo kind).

I’m partial to incubi because my book I’m writing has a pretty cool character who is an incubus and I’ve wanted a succubus tattoo since 8th grade. So there you have it...

Yeah I think the succubus is pretty cool. Like the one in Castlevania.

Basilisk

A big snake whose stare will turn you into stone.

Folks in middle ages would get them invading their homes. The only way to evict a basilisk in your house would be to get a gang of burly guys, wearing long chains of mirrors to go into your basement to wrestle it into submission. Serious stuff back then.

Had never even heard of the creatures before I read the above in a history book, but soon after I read it I caught the middle of a Harry Potter movie on TV and saw Harry Potter fight one in a tunnel. So Rowling gets credit for reviving the basilisk meme. :D

I'm on my phone right now and haven't figured out how to post pictures using it (I'm technologically challenged  ) but I seriously believe that I have the soul of a dragon, in the body of a human.

To be honest most of the monsters I know about I first saw them in video games and on TV.

I feel like the modern horror movie zombie (not the voodoo kind) is a very American invention. The first movie to have flesh-eating zombies was George Romero's Night of the Living Dead which came out in 1968. Before then the zombies in movies were always voodoo-related.

His were more a symbolism for the world ending and the dead returning to life in an apocalypse to eat the living. Not slaves brought back to life by voodoo practictioners.

That's from Hieronymus Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. That's a small frame from a much, much larger picture, look it up on google in hi-def if you want to see all kinds of crazy creatures. Not sure what it's supposed to be, but I've always found it fascinating and creepy. I mean, is it a man, a tree, and why is it skating on boats? Just wtf, wtf?
