Hmmmm....could the question also be asked: Why do Germans seemingly tout their moral superiority?

I don't consider myself to be morally superior, but I am German-American.

This is the complete original German national anthem, with the forboden verses fully included.

Today, only the 3rd verse is used, starting from “Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" (Unity and Justice and Freedom)

Leftist view the first 2 verses as sexist, hedonist, and in post-1945 borders, territorial expansionist reclaiming pre-WW2 borders. French and Polish might also be offended.

Although, the phrase “Deutschland über alles in der Welt” (Germany above all in the world) is really not a racial supremacist statement, but refers to the 19th century political goal of German unification, as the most important goal above all else, which was the original context when the song was written in 1841, before Hitler or Nazi even existed.

Otherwise it’s a moving song.

Deutschlandlied/Das Lied der Deutschen (1922 - 1945)

Britain has better music. That's the best that I can come up with.

Interesting take on "patriotism".

To me its strange to even hear folks asking "why Germans aren't more patriotic" because I am a Boomer, and the folks of my parents' generation were all scared s**tless by the very thought of Germans being "patriotic".

Singer and satirist Tom Leherer was of my parents' generation.

Britain does NOT have better music than Germany:

JS Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gustav Mahler, Richard Wagner, et al

Vs

Edward Elgar and William Walton

Actually, even many of Britain's "treasured" composers (Holst and Handel, for example) were really Germans.

I totally approve of what the guy in the picture said, of course.

Doesn't even matter to me that they used Germany in this example. Could have used Canada. I just like that it points out how the stereotypical American patriot shows their pride, and the other things other nationalities have to be proud of in different ways besides showing team colours.

A lot of that patriotism was generated during WWI and especially WWII in which America was highly victorious.

Germany has a long tradition of great marsch songs from its Preußen/Prussian military roots, such as the following composed by Johann Gottfried Piefke.

Königgrätzer Marsch (1866), performed by the current Bundeswehr marching band

Preußens Gloria (1871), performed by Chilean army, which ironically keeps original German look and traditions more than Germany itself.

Comparing the current German Bundeswehr and the Chilean army, ironically Chile looks and moves more like the original German military than the Bundeswehr does.. Americanized uniforms and No goose-step in Bundeswehr..

The Chilean army does have an interesting look, and sound.

Their brown faces certainly don't look German, but their uniforms do.

The guys in the red pants in the unit behind the guys in the German helmets looks like American Civil War soldiers.

Not just because of the brimmed hats with the flat tops that fall toward the brim, but also because those baggy red pants were a common thing worn by "Zouave" units on both sides of the American Civil War (a fashion statement American soldiers themselves stole from Napoleonic era French soldiers).

The Kinks and The Beatles recorded some pretty groovy songs.

Isn't that the definition of national socialism? The deutschlanders have always taken care of their volksgemainschaft (or people's community). High taxes and welfare to cover education and health for all. Also (and this is admirable) the almost zealous support of German owned and run companies for products and services. Compare that to outsourcing and "made in f**ing" China...."

In this sense of community the Americans (or for that matter any English speaking community) were never patriotic. The British class system is a legacy of treating half their population like cattle till the early 20th century.

Not real music, although okay as a one-off.
