Yep, just look up "action figure" in the merriam-webster online dictionary. It will tell you. It's a model human, a doll.

You're not wrong. Only reason we differentiate to begin with is that our society is way too hung up on gender segregation. If men weren't so insecure about their gender identity and worried about beinf mocked for liking things that are percieved to be associated with women, then we wouldn't even have the separate term action figure.

Action figures, fashion dolls and baby dolls are all subsets of the broad category dolls.

Indeed, they are.

Generally when girls play with dolls they're caring for and nurturing them and having tea parties with them.

When boys play with dolls they're having them fight each other.

I remember when I was at a daycare when one of my little cousins was getting picked up, there were two giant stuffed bears at either side of the room. On one side little girls were pretending take care of theirs like it was sick. On the other side little boys were attacking theirs.

I did various things with my action figures. I also sometimes played with girls' dolls when playing with my sister or other girls.

I wasn't one to play with dolls at all. I preferred to collect stuffed animals, mainly cats.

I read that when G.I. Joe was first created Hasbro came up with the name action figure because back in the early 60's it was conventional "wisdom" that boys did not play with dolls and parents would never buy them for their sons, no matter how stereotypically rugged and masculine the doll was.

As a kid I played with both action figures and dolls. But most of the action figures were owned by my two cousins, both boys, and I'd play with them whenever I came to visit. My brother was not interested in action figures. I only remember him having two of them when we were really young - The Bionic Man and Batman's sidekick Robin.

My brother might not have liked action figures, but he liked playing with my dolls. By "playing" I mean doing things with them that would make me angry and annoyed. One time he even threatened to draw veins with red and blue pen on the head my bald baby boy Cabbage Patch Kid, but he never did, and considering how hard those dolls were to get at the time, mom probably would have fed him to a pack of feral dogs.

But he wasn't as bad as this other guy I knew who said he used to sneak into his sister's bedroom and put her dolls in "dirty positions".

Perhaps the only thing keeping him from carrying out his threats were his fear of your mom. Becasue moms can be pretty scary.
