they have been talking on the news about a Momo Challenge. What is with these internet challenges?

I looked it up on Wikipedia, and read that it's "a hoax and an urban legend about a nonexistent social media challenge... it was reported that children and adolescents were being enticed by a user named Momo to perform a series of dangerous tasks including violent attacks and suicide".
