What does "you're so random" mean? I see it as rude. Is it?

I don't find it insulting.

"You're so random." is also a direct quote from Bailey Bennett to Sam Gardner, both characters in the Netflix TV show Atypical.

Literally, random means something that doesn't do something in a pattern that can be recognized or predicted. But when someone says a person is random I think it means they say or do things no one would expect them to do, which it usually seen as a good thing since most people find someone who does everything predictably to be boring.

It depends on the context.

Sometimes, it can be positive; sometimes, it can be negative.

It means, basically, that you're spontaneous and impulsive.

I think that depends somewhat on who says it. To people that could mean different things.
To me, that means, "You are different." Or, you jump around in your conversation, actions, or slightly in your personality.

late=deceased. and she was from japan. i'm one/half japanese, 1/4 german, 1/4 english.

Have never heard anyone ever say the expression "you're so random" to me, nor to anyone else.

I've been told I'm random when my stream-of-consciousness goes from one topic to another more quickly than people would expect. For example, we'll be talking about one thing (x) and it reminds me of another thing (y), which gives me a synaesthesia connection to another few things (zzzz) and a flashback of some related story (abc), so I'll tell the story. People will say "You're so random! How did you get from x to abc?" In my mind it's a logical connection but that's because autistic minds seem to process and make connections much faster than NT minds. Synaesthesia makes it even faster.

One time, I gave a biscotti to a skinny girl. She said to me, "That was random!"
