Gen Z
It really irritates me how articles incorrectly cite the age group cohorts for their own convenience. Regular people do this too, but you can’t blame regular people for being uninformed. Age cohorts are a sociological reference point, which was defined only in the Baby Boomer generation. They were born between the years 1946 and 1964. That is an 18 year span.
Following this logic, the rest of the cohorts are as follows:
Generation X: 1965-1983
Millennials: 1984-2002
Generation Z: 2003-2021
So the oldest Millenials are turning 36 this year and the youngest are only turning 17. The youngest Gen Z kids have not been born yet. All this talk about the attributes of Gen Z is BS. They are too young to make predictions.
I remember the dire predictions about my generation (X), because we watched too much TV and played video games. We supposedly had no empathy and cared about nothing. We would destroy the world, people said. It turns out that Gen X are solid worker bees, more like the Silent Generation (the generation before boomers). No harm done after all.
I’m not sure the hay people make about millenials is entirely accurate either, because so many of them are still so young. It may be notable that half of this generation are the younger siblings of my generation and the other half are our children. So we have people raised by two different age groups. The millennials with old parents may be different than those with young parents.
