How someone defines Barney
You hear them in the store whining and pleading to their parents to purchase the latest stuffed Barney toy.
If asked, a child might say he/she loves Barney more than his/her parents.
Why? Because Barney never gets mad, nothing bad ever happens to Barney, yet Dad just got passed over for a promotion and Mom just lost her job.
Barney sugar-coats and presents a false view of reality.
Singing a happy song and forgetting the problem is Barney's way of dealing with difficult situations.
Children will not be able to handle them on their own.
The lasting effects of the show might last well into the teenage years.
When they realize that life isn't really what Barney told them it was like,
who knows what will happen?
Barney also becomes a member of the family often times replacing a parent.
On the show, the kids all do what Barney tells them to in perfect conformity without a hint of individual personality.
There is also no clear distinction between reality and what's supposed to be in the kid's imagination.
Only in the theme song is it mentioned that Barney is an imaginary character.
Most of the show has an appearance of being real.
At the "target" age, the kids won't know the difference.
In some of the scenes, it's pretty obvious because something will appear out of thin air, or Barney will do a super-fast costume change.
Many of the scenes which show children interacting with Barney, and Barney solving the problems with a song aren't so obvious.
Be careful not to underestimate what your child is taking in.
As young children age, their brains become more developed different areas of the brain develop at different rates.
This means that a child may understand what he/she's seeing on the screen, but may not be able to communicate it with you.
Now, have you ever watched the show?
Do you just plop your kids in front of the TV and leave them there?
Too many parents just leave their kids watching Barney unattended.
This is bad. This is very bad.
If a parent does this, they have no idea what messages a show is teaching their kids.
Some parents also use Barney as a pacifier.
This is one of the worst things any parent can do to their child. Just as a small child becomes dependent on their plastic soother for comfort, they can become dependent on Barney, the biggest pre-school money making machine of the nineties.
(Remember that the only reason Barney and Friends is aired is to make money.
It isn't being run by a non-profit group, some people are getting very rich from Barney)
Have you witnessed first-hand the impressions the show is making on your child?
I suggest you watch the show and see for yourself what messages are being shown.
This may not be a definition, but rather an advise and the thruth of Barney (IOW, it IS a definition.
Is Barney The Biblical Beast?
1. The character of Barney is well-described as a "cute purple dinosaur".
2. The book points out how the former Latin alphabet used the letter V in place of U.
3. Therefore the above phrase is modified to "cvte pvrple dinosavr".
4. Letters that do not represent Roman numerals are removed, leaving: "c v v l d i v"
5. When the remaining numbers 100, 5, 5, 50, 500, 1, and 5 are added, the result is 666, the Number of the Beast.
6. This also works with "lovable purple dinosaur". This gives the letters "l v l v l d i v", which in turn gives 50, 5, 50, 5, 50, 500, 1, and 5, which also add up to 666.
"666" is the "Number of the Beast"
"This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666." -- Revelation 13:18 (NIV)

I don't why people are still talking about Barney the dinosaur after all these years.
But while Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers have occasionally dealt with scary or sad situations in ways that can actually help kids get through tough times, Barney is just pure saccharin - like real saccharin, it's hundreds of times sweeter than real sugar and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
But I can tell you one thing: Barney's got nothing on Psalty the Songbook, who basically a Christian version of Barney. He's a large anthropomorphic talking blue book who says "Praise the lord!" constantly, has a creepy and weird-looking dog, and hangs around a bunch of kids who are even more hammy at their acting than the ones on Barney. I don't know if Barney is the "Biblical Beast", but Psalty is as beastly as you can get.

Barney is brainwashing , 'I love you , you love me , we're a hap-py family' and ' super dee duper dee' is forever etched in my psyche but maybe that's because I'm autistic ?
P.S. Didn't read OP - too long - no attention span ![]()

If parents actually watched Barney the Dinosaur with their kids, they'd be ready to put an extremely large axe through the TV. ![]()
In one episode the characters are all talking about how good healthy food is for you and why you should eat it. It was implied that it's the only thing you should eat, ever. In that same episode they're eating or singing about ice cream.
Another show had them performing their own make-believe(?) circus. What kind of circus has its performers singing songs about the importance of brushing your teeth but never leaving the water running when you do?
And the kid actors don't act like real kids at all. Real kids don't talk or act like they do. Real kids don't love school SO much that they stay there after school is over for the day, every day. This was hilariously shown in Baloney, the Animaniacs parody of Barney. ![]()
