If gorillas are gentle shy creatures then how come they are not commonly owned as pets like dogs are?

They haven’t been domesticated.

They can be aggressive.

Gorillas don't usually take kindly to being bossed around, and people are generally wary of keeping as pets an animal that could crush your skull like a grape.

Who told you they were Gentle and shy? Sure, they can be...but they can also be strong and aggressive.
