Does anybody here believe in karma? I used to not believe in it, but I'm starting to now.

Sure bad things happen to innocent people, and some bad people never suffer the consequences of their actions. BUT I believe the key to karma is that people never forget your actions or the actions of your family, your ancestors, or your country. When word gets around that you were cruel to somebody else it will never be forgotten and it eventually will catch up with you one way or another. If it doesn't get you in your lifetime then it may effect your children and their children. And if you show true kindness to people they often will not forget it and they're usually the people that will have your back in the end.

Maybe true karma is similar to cause and effect?

I believe in karma, if not in this world maybe after death. I don't want to believe that evil people will not be punished. Your theory about cause and effect is very interesting btw.

Karma? Like when someone says, "Here, hold my beer ... y'all gotta watch this!" just before the huge, Earth-shattering 'Ka-Boom'?

Or do you mean the kind of karma where a jerk tosses a dollar bill at a homeless guy, only to find out a week later that a homeless guy from his area is the only winner of a 500-million dollar lottery?

Don't believe in Karma but will use the phrase 'Instant Karma' as a joke.

I mean like, say a parent is extremly abusive to their children, but then they get old and sickly and their kids never forget the abuse and they either refuse to help their elderly parents or they lock them up in the cheapest worst nursing home they can find and then forget all about them.

That's an example of what I mean by karma. People never forget your actions in the end.

Ahh ... Revenge! The kind of karma that puts a bully at your mercy and you don't give a f*** about "turning the other cheek" -- THAT kind of karma!

 It's PAYBACK time!

Well not just revenge. Another form of karma can be suffering for one's own stupidity.

Like say a person has money and instead of doing the smart thing and paying their bills, they blow their money on something fun and next thing you know they have to do without power.

Or say a young person in college does a porno job, and after they finish school and start looking for a proper job the company they want to work for does a background check on them and finds those nude pictures and videos. That choice will potentially haunt them forever.

Makes sense? :)

"Karma" has been used to gaslight and bully people on Wrong Planet, so I think it's a trigger topic for some people. That being said, most people on WP don't care if they trigger others. I just wanted to mention this.

Sorry, I'm not trying to trigger anybody. I'm just trying to explain how I think karma works.

It's not always about "if something bad happens to you then you deserve it", but I do think people often end up creating consequences for their own choices in life.

I don't really think of karma as "reward and punishment". I think of it more as longterm effects for the choices you make. Even people who make good choices in life can make enemies for doing so.

I know, TW1Z. You haven't done anything wrong. I just wanted to mention it for the sake of people who may have been triggered. I'm not even saying that I do or don't believe in Karma. That's another topic. :P

The popular conception of karma i.e. "what goes around comes around"? Sure.

The original conception of Karma, which justifies the indian caste-system and various other less than savory things? Not so much.

I believe that our actions have consequences, and sometimes our inaction (not doing what we should do) has consequences as well.
