Visiting random places in your country

Well, in the US because of its size, I can think of so many random places to visit. I would say in a country as small as mine, there less such places, but regardless of a country's size there are still many such places.
When people go visit a different place, they prefer a famous place like New York or London. But I'm different. To be honest, I'm not sure if it's because of the asperger I have or not, but I admit I have very special interests, and that includes places almost nobody visits - except people who live in that place.
Sometimes, you discover beautiful places in a small, relatively unknown town in the middle of nowhere, especially in the US.
If anyone can think of such a place, which is relatively unknown but you discovered something beautiful or interesting enough there, please share it here and explain what it was and where it was, and why you think it was interesting, beautiful, or whatever.
