On the train today there was this man in front of me who kept saying "I looking for Rita. where is she?"

He looked/acted perfectly normal apart from this. I perhaps made a mistake in asking him who Rita was, to which he responded "vat?" Like what, in an accent. I repeated and he said:

"Rita, she leave, I need her, where is she?"

Then he took out his phone and, without even dialling any number, started saying "Rita! I looking for you", etc.

It's not the first time I encounter this type of behaviour. It is a frequent occurance. Some people look and act normal, only to veer into this kind of monologue. Others look and act strange (i.e blatantly, like food stains all over clothes, manic random laughter, hopping about, doing manic repetitive gestures, screaming or talking to themselves).

Yet when I ask Neurotypical people about "crazy encounters" they hardly seem to get any, or don't notice.

What is this weirdosity? Are we magnets to the crazy or is it just me...?!?

OMG!! ! I thought I was the only one this happened to. Nt's don't talk about stuff like that, they won't make eye contact with such people, and they run away from them - Nt's seem to be able to notice what we don't notice - thus, they can do what I just mentioned. Once my NT co-worked dragged me from one part of a train to another and said, "What are you blind? Can't you tell the woman next to you is crazy?" To this day, I can't tell. My co-worked knew almost instantly.

I remember a few years ago I was in a store and a person was talking to themselves. I watched for several minutes and then I noticed that the person had a little device around their ear. I then realized that the person was not talking to themselves but rather they were talking by ear phone to someone else.

This brings up another thought. Several years ago when my youngest daughter was about 4 or 5, we bought her a pair of sneakers that lit up when you walked. Shortly afterwards, my wife and daughter went on a vacation trip to the other side of the world for the summer. When my daughter would walk into a store, everyone stopped dead in awe and looked at her in amazement. They thought she was a space alien. Her feet would glow as she walked and only her being a space alien would be a logical explanation for such a thing.

That is very true. NTs avoid crazy people. The reason why is because crazy people are dangerous. Their actions are not predictable and as a result they can be very, very dangerous.

The following video describes an encounter between an Aspie and a crazy person.

Yeah, sometimes we just seem to attract people who really aren't normal. The bad or creepy kind of "not normal", I mean. Maybe we give off a pheromone that subconsciously affects such people or something. Or it's like cats who end up liking the one person in a room who is a real cat-hater, because the cat sees them as the least threatening.

This happens to me alot. I pass by people on the sidewalk all the time & hear them saying something & I'm almost never sure if they were telling me Hi, or Hey or something, talking on their phone with alittle ear piece, or they were talking to themselves. I also pass by people who are singing & sometimes yelling the lyrics to various rap songs.

I think NTs either sense that certain people aren't normal & the NTs try to avoid them or the NTs are too much in their own bubble to notice & just ignore or tune out anyone who's acting weird.

I was asked a couple of times if I was [insert name I can't remember here]. I was quite puzzled and told them no. They said I looked exactly like a Russian woman they'd met before. It still weirds me out.

I've also had my car door opened a few times when I was sitting in it because someone thought it was their car and didn't notice me.

Oh! And someone at a laundromat told me I had demons surrounding me and I needed Jesus. (:

I'm either invisible or I somehow shapeshift helplessly on command.

I wonder if the crazy person Justin ran into was one of the members of the band Gin Blossoms & wrote their song called Mrs. Rita

Quote:
You can see it in her letters on the paper with her pen
Her response is getting stronger I think she's coming round again
Tell me Mrs. Rita what's it say in my tarot
Read my palm and tell me why do lovers come and go
Is she coming round for me once again, around or was that just the end
I just hope she's coming round again
I've been keeping myself busy with my books and with my tapes
Every day's much better since I've slowed my drinking pace
There's no swimming in the bottle it's just someplace we all drown
I lost myself in sorrow lost my confidence in doubt
Is she coming 'round for me once again, around or was that just the end
I just hope she's coming round again
Get in the car and drive through town
Down the block and back around
Pretending that she's there with me we drive
Gone forever...
My patience keeps me plaintive my high hopes keep me alone
My lover's will is shaken I wish she would just come home
So tell me Mrs. Rita what's it say in my tarot
Read my palm and tell me why do lovers come and go
Is she coming round for me once again, around or was that just the end
I just hope she's coming round again

Omg I totally forgot about this song/album, thanks for unearthing dusty memories in my brain today.

This happens to me, too!
I think part of the reason (for me anyway) might be 'slower' processing of what is going on that NT's seem to do very fast.

An example is the other day, I was at the bus stop. Then I saw a man come to the bus stop. Then I realised he was talking. Then I looked around (because I was sure I was the only other person there and I thought I'd ignored him. Saw he was talking to himself. Saw he had can of beer. Saw he was also jumping up and down. It's like all these observations were completely separate, and then it took a while (about 5 minutes maybe?) for all this to 'mesh' together and me to realise it was a strange situation .
I don't know if anyone else is like this, or if it's just me .

Ok this all makes a lot of sense. So to briefly summarise:-

1. NT people pick up on behavioural clues better than Aspies, so can avoid crazy people before their behaviour strongly manifests.
2. At the same time, NT may be less aware of such people, when concentrating on something else.
3. Subtle traits or other things are revealed by Aspies that crazy people get attracted by (the 'cat theory').
4. That these people may not be crazy at all but instead are sadists wanting to 'have fun' with Aspies, connecting to 3.

And sorry about the term 'crazy', by this I mean people who strongly manifest unpredictable and abnormal behaviour that can disturb and/or cause danger

And yeah there might well be something in that song because another person did similar (asking me where 'Rita' was). Sometimes I also wonder if there's some kind of collective brain damage/hacking going on. Like in the movie Cell. Except aspies are immune to it. Just a passing thought...!

Here is another example why NTs avoid crazy people. They are dangerous.

A Chicago woman was held without bond Sunday after she allegedly stabbed another woman dozens of times while she wore a “Scream” mask and repeated, “God is making me do this.”

The Chicago Tribune reported that Patricia Calhoun-Murdock allegedly attacked the victim two weeks ago in what a judge called a “truly random” act. She was arrested by U.S. marshals after Chicago police said they determined that she was walking with a stolen Kindle from the 56-year-old victim’s apartment.

The paper described a harrowing scene inside. The victim was asleep when she woke up to see the alleged attacker holding a knife and in the mask. The victim begged for her life, but was stabbed at least 39 times, according to the report.

She suffered slits to her throat and her heart was pierced. At one point, the victim tried to play dead, but was told by Calhoun-Murdoch: “I can still hear you breathing.”

Calhoun-Murdoch allegedly made an admission to police and said she had “mental health concerns.”

[sarcasm=intentional]

The best way to fight this type of criminal behavior is to enact stronger knife-control laws.
