I use to work for Safeway for many years. And one of the things I would struggle with even after many years of being there is still not knowing where everything is. It was mostly not remembering the layout of the GM area. It's rather embarrassing but at the same time, it was usually the odd and unpopular items people would ask for that I would be clueless about. What was your issue?

I used to volunteer at a charity shop (I know it wasn't a paid job but still). From the retail experience I gained from volunteering there, I found it hard to focus or hear people talk to me when there was a noisy baby or toddler in the shop. And also I found it hard to deal with difficult customers, as some could be intimidating. So I started to look for paid work that wasn't in retail.

I worked in a bagel shop once. My problem was that I couldn't sweep the floor properly.

I've never worked in retail or food service because I think they would be too challenging to my senses. My retail problem is that I refuse to ask for help, I can never find anything, the shops are too bright, and I want to tuck and roll if I see anyone I know. I'm very afraid of small talk.

I've had a couple of customer service jobs - one in a big DIY store, and one in a government office. In both of them, just the environment full of noisy people and chaotic movement was very overstimulating, and having to talk with people all day wore me down to the point that I couldn't handle being around people at all in my private life. Suffice to say, neither of them lasted very long.

My biggest problem working at WalMart for two years was that I kept getting mixed conflicting orders. The reason I quit was cuz I was given two different orders by different people & I got a verbal warning for following the wrong order. I felt I was set up to get in trouble. Another big problem was that my department became majorly shorthanded & more & more work was expected from me.

I worked at WalMart as a cashier for a few months right after I finished school - my biggest problem was being intimidated by customers. People would get so angry about any little thing and take it out on me, and I would just freeze up not knowing what to say. The worst part was we were supposed to open and check inside any kind of container they were buying to make sure no one was shoplifting, and everyone got so mad about that I just stopped doing it. Until one day the store hired some people to try to sneak electronics out through the registers that way to test us, and all the testers got stuff out through my lane. There was a big meeting about it the next day and I had to quit before they could fire me.
