I have noticed that there is very little information out there to help autistic adults cope with traveling. These are some things I learned from experience:

Always go during the off season. Generally the weather is less extreme, there are less crowds, and it might even be cheaper. And Florida summers will break you if you're not used to them.

Always have multiple pairs of earplugs. Baseball caps could also help if your vision is being overwhelmed.

Disney is more sensory friendly than Universal and has more quiet rides and out of the way spots. Tomorrowland's People Mover is a lifesaver! They're both worth going to at least once though. The shops and some food places in Universal are generally the best places to go if you need quiet.

Be very careful about the security levels in Washington, DC. I made a social blunder during a high alert day and nearly got shot. I think there are apps that alert you when the security level changes.

Staying at a campground is cheaper than staying at a hotel. And it's easier to get away from people. Do not sleep directly on the ground, though. You will wake up with an aching back and probably bruises from that rock you inevitably forgot to move. Egg crate foam is comfortable and less hassle than an air mattress. It also takes up less space. When deciding what to bring while camping, don't worry about "cheating" or "roughing it." Everybody has different comfort levels with that kind of thing.

If you end up crowded in a hotel room and can't sleep because of everyone's snoring, you can take a bunch of extra bedding into the bathroom and fill the bathtub with it. Not ideal if you're tall, but the bathrooms are usually soundproofed.

Take breaks while walking, and make sure you're eating and drinking frequently to avoid passing out or getting in a bad mood and not enjoying your vacation. Bring your own food and drink if possible to save money and hassle. Taking breaks is especially important because otherwise your joints will swell up like crazy and it will feel like you aged 50 years.

If you're with multiple people in a crowd, keep a laser focus on the group leader. People won't bother you if you look like you have a clear destination in mind, and it can help keep you from being overwhelmed.

Don't dress like a tourist, don't act like a tourist, pay attention to your surroundings. Tourists are targets for crime because the criminals know that in order for them to face charges, the tourist has to show up to every court date. They will purposely delay the court as many times as possible in order to make the tourist give up, if the tourist even shows up at all.

Don't get drunk in public, you will be a prime target and easy prey if you do. Don't trust vendors to give you the correct change, use a currency converter on your phone and do the math yourself, that is one way that they target you.

Keep an eye on your stuff at all time, keep your wallet or valuables in your front pocket or inside coat zippered pocket. Never let go of your bags in public, even to help someone else. Thieves will work in teams, one to distract, one to rob your belongings.

Backpacking in the tropics

When you land you may have to get a bus to your destination, buy water to drink but don't drink it too quickly, sip it or you will have a problem on the bus.

books are heavy, so if you are going somewhere frequented by lots of backpackers, find out if there is a cafe that has a book exchange.

If you're going somewhere tropical, consider traveling light and taking just a few light clothes that you can handwash, they will dry overnight in the tropics. If you take this option, you can pack a lightweight spare bag and come back with lots of goodies.

If it's your first time in the country/continent don't kick around, move around. If you go back, you are likely to revisit some of your favorite places so travel wide first time.

Since you live in California, I would recommend a trip to Catalina Island as a day trip. There is a ferry that take you to the island. It is a quaint little village with many small restaurants along the ocean. It contains the Catalina Casino, which is a large auditorium with unbelievable acoustics. also a dance floor. Here is a link Catalina Casino They have ballroom dancing if you schedule your trip for one of those events.

Call the airport beforehand and say you have aspergers/austism to get a "meet and greet" which is someone who can guide you around the airport (if you think you need that)

The most important advice I guess is to plan a trip properly and beforehand. I prefer to and tickets beforehand, that's cheaper. I also recommend to take minimum clothes and cosmetics, big luggage is not about a comfort at all. I always read reviews and feedbacks in the web attentively, some of them can help you to avoid a lot of problems during future trip.

If your destination crosses several time zones, always take a small bottle of Melatonin along. You can find it in the vitamin aisle of the drug store. Melatonin helps reset your biological clock and will allow you to quickly acclimate to your destination and provide you with a good night's sleep.

Being able to research a potential holiday spot on-line has made the biggest difference to me - and street-view on Google maps etc. has been a particular boon.

Exploring an urban area on-line with an eye-level view really helps me to have a sense of bearings when I arrive somewhere new, and it gives a less idealised snapshot of a place that you're thinking of going than the ads on a trip-planner or hotel booking site. You can often get an idea of how busy with road traffic an area might be, note useful landmarks that'll help you find your way around, and get some warning if that hotel you're thinking of booking is half falling down!

People need to careful with Melatonin. My doc prescribed it for me for traveling & occasional use. The night I tried it I tossed & turned all night & kept waking up & felt hungover all of the next day.

Good afternoon! Can you tell me if there are organized road tours in Italy? I am interested in whether it is possible to "fit in" as passengers in the car? If the car is for 4 people, then the cost is cheaper per person. Tickets and visas are issued. There are 2 of us, we can’t rent a car ourselves (no driving experience), although we [, but at that time there was a guy with us, now he refused to go, and I wouldn't like to go by bus with a group of 40 people... We have neither time nor desire to research/book bus/train tickets themselves because we've never been to Italy. Thanks in advance!

Few of the travel tips to be kept in mind which will make your tour safe, enjoyable and comfortable are:-
a. Carry a small notebook & pen when you’re traveling.
b. Check in On-Line.
c. Avoid the bulkhead row on international flights.
d. Check if the country you are visiting is “toilet paper in the toilet” or “toilet paper in the trash can”.
e. Always ask for that upgrade (hotel, airline, rental car).
f. Ask for your hotel room to be away from the elevator.
g. Avoid leaks from shampoo bottles.

Best Travel Tips From Eight Years of Travel. Eat the neighborhood nourishment. Plan as meager as could be expected under the circumstances. Travel protection is everything. Bear save identification photographs. Keep everything significant in your daypack. Wear sunscreen consistently. Some significance tips to recollect.

1. Pack basics in your portable luggage.
2. Know your inn data.
3. Take old cash with you.
4. Spare your ticket.
5. Realize when to utilize — and when to skip — the skycaps.

As a seasoned traveller, I highly suggest looking at websites like TripAdvisor, Expedia and Booking.com as they all help with the accommodation/attraction side of things.

If you are planning to fly, check out the airline websites and get quotes - these are quite helpful when you need to book flights through a travel agent. Example: if I wanted to fly from my home town (in the side bar) to Brisbane, I get quotes from all the major airlines as well as the independents.... with the independent airlines, I can fly direct to Brisbane while I would have to fly via Sydney with the likes of Qantas.

I hope this helps,
Joe
