My wife and I went to Spain over ten years ago. While we were there, we bought a bag of M&M's. We noticed right way that each candy was a bit larger than the size of M&M's in the U.S. Also, the chocolate center was made of a much higher quality chocolate than the U.S. M&M's chocolate. I don't often eat M&M's. I don't dislike them, but the chocolate has a slight sour milk flavor to me. There was none of that flavor in the Spanish M&M's. I wonder if M&M's in other European countries are different than U.S. M&M's.

Some M&Ms in the US are bigger nowadays like the caramel 1s, the peanut 1s, & the mega chocolate 1s or whatever the latter is called.

From what I've heard somewhere, according to several OFWs, immigrants and tourists I've known -- in the US, sugar (not sure as a flavor or as an ingredient -- likely as an ingredient) is heavily regulated and supposedly reduced in products.
No one can tell if it's all products or in specific products...

They don't know why exactly, they'd likely assume for health reasons. Than, say, assuming sugar is more expensive in the US. Is it?
Comparing the tastes and sizes of some sweets -- some ice creams, chocolates, candies... US version is less tasty or less flavorful in comparison from where I live.
Not sure if some of them were able to compare US versus elsewhere other than here.

I have always thought it was related to US trade disagreements with Cuba, however when I've mentioned this, I've been told there's no connection.

Hershey's milk chocolate bars taste like cardboard to us. I haven't tried the US M&Ms, except their peanut butter ones (Yummm). I'd assume the original chocolate ones use the same chocolate with a cardboard taste in them. That's just an assumption though. I don't think UK chocolate is that great either. People rave about the English brand Hotel Chocolat, but it's just expensive and really not that great.

Yeah. PLENTY of tropical places grow sugarcane besides Cuba. And the US itself grows sugar beets.

There is a health backlash in the US against sugar content in things. So it might have something to do with that. Not international politics.

I go into British stores to buy my chocolate bars because their quality is so much better.
