There is nothing anti choice in these words.

Yes, but prolife people say she is making the right decision.

Well she's Roman Catholic so it shouldn't be any surprise. In fact, I believe her actual father appeared in the video and I would expect him to share that point of view.

BTW I don't think you have to be religious to be pro-life. There are perfectly rational/secular arguments in favor. I think the real issue is that religious people have co-opted it, so that if you see a pro-life bumper sticker you automatically react to it being a right-wing message. So it disgusts me that people who seem to care so much about unborn fetuses don't give a toss about toddlers dying in camps on the US border due to neglect by the authorities that put them in those camps.

Sometimes life and choice do not exclude each other.
Myself, I prefer such situations.

I completely agree.

I like the original of this song as well as Kelly Osbourne's cover of this & yes she is Ozzy's daughter

It seems rather absurd that abortion-rights group would criticize Madonna for a song that is simply about a young woman who exercises her freedom of choice. There's is nothing anti-abortion in the lyrics.

Before I read this thread I never knew those lyrics caused any controversy about abortion. Now that I've read the tread I guess I'm not surprised considering how extreme both groups are over the issue but I really think both groups are looking for messages/meaning in the song that Madonna never intended to put there.

Actually, the teen-aged girl in the song could have been being pressured to give her baby up for adoption.

Madonna is no one I would take any advice from.

Regarding songs with this title, Phil Harris did a better version in 1946 with "Poppa Don't Preach to Me" from the talking-picture reboot of The Perils of Pauline.

There are people who don't think the song is referring to a pregnancy at all, but that the "baby" she is referring to is a disapproved boyfriend. The line "He says that he's going to marry me and we can raise a little family." can lead people to interpret it like this.

Well of course they do, they don't think abortion is ever the right decision. Which is good and fine, the problem is the prolife people who try to make the choice for others via pushing for religious legislation.
