I would argue that high IQ has little to do with being gifted. Just because you have a bit of paper that says you're good doesn't mean that you are. A great many people with long lists of qualifications can be useless in the real world.

I feel sure that quite alot of us don't look much on paper myself very much included in this. I would define someone with an extraordinary skill or talent as being gifted.

Myself? Occasionally I spot something from the "collection" of random things in my head I'm looking for. I could give you a list of things I've found but I don't want to distract from this thread.

I was thinking exactly that before I read your post except worded slightly differently

"Giftedness" is having exceptional talents or natural abilities.  High intelligence is only one of the many "gifts" a person may have, but I believe it can also be a curse -- sometimes, ignorance really is bliss.

I have a son who was considered gifted when he was young. I never thought curiosity and enthusiasm about things were gifts - just something that I wished more people should have.
I know it's his intent focus and a lot of hard work that turns a talent into something tangible. His true gift is focus and a desire to know every little detail about something that peaks his interest, and to turn that into what he wants. He's only 28 and is a top 10% wage earner. At a very young age he loved anything shiny, RPG game collecting, gemstones, cryptocurrency, higher education, investing, learning, always learning.
But in some ways he's as dumb as a stick (exaggerating but I say that with love and a smile) sometimes totally clueless of what goes on around him. I'm proud and happy he's able to attain what he wants. But so many areas of what is considered normal was lacking. I am extremely happy he found a girlfriend a few years ago and is more rounded now.

Prodigies - they are who I would actually call gifted. Whatever the field - science, music, art, etc - someone who just "knows" something, or can easily grasp concepts and actualize them, or has an extreme amount of talent in a particular field with little formal education.

Thanks all of you for your thoughts on the matter . I can't say I've ever done anything extraordinary. I'm also dumb as can be when it comes to practical matters ,apart from money management which I'm reasonably good at .

I've been going on a FB group that discusses IQ tests and intelligence , with a host of members that make me look like the village idiot's slightly more intelligent brother.

Some think I'm an intruder , but my friend's list has nearly doubled .

I was fairly lazy/didn't try that much with these(all by Dr Greg Grove) , apart from the second, higher scoring 'Uncommonly common' result .

Those scores look pretty impressive to me.
