And best wishes to you also, anyone do the May day traditions?

I picked some flowers last night and left them on my doorstep for luck and protection, its a ritual Ive done since I was a small child, a mix of ancient beliefs and new ones, but its mostly a symbolic act and a nod to my ancestors.

Mayday is a Bank Holiday (Public Holiday) in the UK, but it's always held on the first Monday of the month, hence it'll be on May 4th this year.

It was introduced by Jim Callaghan's Labour government in the 1970s, and I'm surprised that subsequent Tory administrations haven't tried to abolish it.

I thought that May Day marked the end of WWII.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that! Though on a point of information, Mr Chairman, it'll be the 75th anniversary..... :wink:

Ironically, the whole country has been in semi-Bank Holiday mode for five or six weeks, with half the population off work and shops shut, public transport reduced etc.

Yes, I realised as I was walking to the shops that I had confused the recent 100th anniversary of the Armistice with the 75th anniversary of VE Day :oops:

I think I’d support permanently moving May Bank Holiday to be on VE Day, and turning Armistice Day into one as well.

When I think of May Day, I think of that distress call pilots use in movies and stuff. "Mayday! Mayday!".
I wonder how or why they came up with the word?
